Survival games are a subgenre of video games in which the player must survive and thrive against a wide variety of challenges. They can be as simple as having one player and the other players can manipulate their actions, or something as complicated as a massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). Some survival games have no story at all; these are called sandbox games and are often used for a completely open-ended experience in survival mode.
