Xiaomi has recently filed a new tri-fold patent which reveals Huawei Mate XT-like design. The former company could adopt the same Z-folding form factor for its first triple-foldable. But there will likely be changes in the device’s optical framework.

China’s Intellectual Property Administration has published a new Xiaomi tri-fold patent on its site. The company issued the patent on December 21, 2022. It has been published on September 3 with the publication number CN308817132S.

The Xiaomi patent images highlight a tri-fold handset with three display panels just like the Huawei triple-foldable. These screens are said to be in different sizes to offer a thin and large viewing experience. You can check the clear look below.

Yes, the form factor of Xiaomi tri-fold is quite similar to the Mate XT. But the MIX Fold 3 maker could bring certain design upgrades. One of these could be the rear camera structure which appears like a rectangular bar in the latest patent pictures.

Inputs further reveal that the optical framework has three lens openings arranged horizontally. Beside the last lens, there is a thin pill-shaped LED flash.

It is unclear whether Xiaomi will use this patent design as the final look of its first tri-fold phone. Although we can expect to see this new triple-fold device next year under the MIX lineup. Xiaomi is yet to confirm details on this matter.

An early report predicted that Xiaomi is planning to join the triple foldable game soon. Now the latest patent revelation has added consent to some extent. If true, we may see a prototype of Xiaomi’s tri-folding phone at the MWC 2025 event.

Tri-Fold Phone: a new trend!

Foldable phones are quite trendy but it seems the world’s first tri-fold – the Mate XT has taken the trend to the next level. After Huawei, various tech makers like Honor, Samsung, and Xiaomi are ready to jump into the triple foldable pool.

Honor is said to bring a 10mm thick tri-fold, while Samsung is allegedly preparing a rollable-style device. Now Xiaomi is ready to step into this ground. How this trend becomes a battle among smartphone makers would be worth looking at.

Update: After 2 million, Huawei Mate XT reservations surpassed 3 million units. The company’s triple-foldable already seems to be “high in demand” among consumers ahead of its launch. And who knows, where this figure will go next?

Original Story: September 9, 2024

Huawei Mate XT tri-fold phone has exceeded 2 million reservations before its official unveiling. The ultimate triple-foldable device began achieving new milestones hours before its launch. And this situation could be more exciting after the release.

The Mate XT Ultimate Design will launch on September 10. But before that, the device has already proved its popularity among consumers. In just a few hours of the Huawei Mate XT tri-fold reservations, the orders figure crossed 2 million units.

Mate XT reservation activity began on September 7 at Huawei Mall and it reached 10000 units immediately. Within a short period, the number has become 2 million and now it’s around 2.7 million, which is just beyond expectations.

Looking at the tri-fold demand, the CTI of Huawei Device Business Group –  Bruce Lee said:

“It has almost exceeded 2 million in less than 24 hours. Are there really so many people who want to buy Mate XT?”

A few netizens on Weibo stated that the iPhone 16 series doesn’t seem much interesting compared to Huawei’s tri-fold. It seems the tri-fold creation already outshined Apple’s new product ahead of the launch. Yet, it would be wrong to draw any conclusions before seeing the actual capabilities of both smartphones.

Note that the official sale conditions and units may differ from the pre-order stage. Some early inputs have mentioned that the device is available in limited quantities.

Apart from the official stores, some third-party channels also initiated the pre-order activity for 20000-30000 yuan. On some platforms, the device is priced at 999900 yuan.

The company has yet to reveal the exact cost details of the tri-fold. Hence, it is better to take the current price info with a grain of salt. Just one more day and we may grab the accurate specs, features, and other info about the new triple-foldable.

Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design comes in two storage variants at the reservations: 16GB + 512GB and 16GB + 1TB. Users can also pick the device in two color options which are Black and Red. Both shades are eye-catching and offer a mesmerizing look.

Mate XT tri-fold reservation activity is running live and will remain valid till September 19. Thereafter, the Chinese phone maker will open the device for the official sale. Interested consumers can tap HERE to directly land on the purchase page.

Huawei HiSilicon Connect Conference will happen next month and it seems the company’s chip unit may announce breakthrough news at this event. The upcoming event has already started fueling speculations of success amid U.S. sanctions.

The Huawei HiSilicon Connect Conference will held from September 9-10 in Shenzhen. At this event, the company will talk about its solutions for semiconductors. It will also discuss factors that can accelerate the technological growth in China.

But ahead of this event, the chip unit is in talks about a breakthrough – officially forming a Huawei-centered tech ecosystem, from chip design to operating systems.

The new event has not only raised discussions among netizens but also resulted in surging stock prices. A HiSilicon products supplier – Shenzhen Huaqiang warned investors regarding ‘uncertainties’ for the upcoming new product launch event.

It stated so, following the unit’s stock price that increased by the daily limit of 10% last week. It also added that the company will redouble its efforts to promote and expand new HiSilicon products in the market. This again pushed the stock to a 10% increase.

Huizhong Instrumentation, which makes ultrasonic flow measuring devices using HiSilicon chips also saw a hike of 40% in its stock for two days last week. But the shares fell to 19% after it said that it doesn’t buy these SoCs directly from Huawei.

The Chinese OEM hasn’t commented on this topic so far. However, the upcoming HiSilicon event will likely open up big news related to the chip and its progress.

It will further shed light on Huawei’s long journey toward chip technology and breakthroughs. The company has come a long way for its chipset capabilities that it kept developing under the HiSilicon umbrella despite tightened U.S. restrictions.

Huawei and HiSilicon’s situation was immensely good before it was hit by the U.S. ban. The company used to hold a 16% share of the worldwide application processors in 2020 alongside Kirin chip shipment for Huawei devices. But this figure become zero by 2022 following the foreign trade export challenges and supply chain issues.

HiSilicon was even capable of competing with Intel and Qualcomm with its advanced tech. However, the table turned after the U.S. started eyeing the company. It seems things are once again on the verge of turning in favor of Huawei with a chip breakthrough.

A new leak suggests that Huawei could launch the Sound Joy 2 series in September this year. After two years, the company seems ready to unveil some new-gen speakers for its consumers with the latest technologies and advanced audio capabilities.

Weibo tipster @FixedFocus notes that the Huawei Sound Joy 2 series might release in August or September this year. Since most products are scheduled for September, we can expect to see the upcoming Sound speakers in the respective month.

The term ‘series’ hints that the Sound Joy 2 will probably have more than one model. It’s just an assumption and an official announcement awaits on this matter.

Apart from Sound Joy 2, Huawei will likely launch the Sound X 4 speaker. The inputs reveal that the new X 4 speaker could release tomorrow (July 18). But again, the company has not confirmed this news so far. It’s better to take it with a grain of salt.

Huawei debuted the Sound Joy speaker at HDC 2022 event. It is co-developed by Devialet as well as packs various features to offer its users. The device wraps a three-dimensional fabric layer and provides Devialet 4-unit punch sound effects on board.

It is water and dust-resistant. Sound Joy is a portable and lightweight speaker that users can carry anywhere. It is quite durable and can play music for 26 hours non-stop.

The Sound Joy further has an 8800mAh battery which supports a super-fast 40W power adapter. One can use it for a complete hour in just 10 minutes of charge.

It comes with HarmonyOS 3.0 out of the box and supports features like Bluetooth dual-mode, shake gestures to create a stereo pair, and one-touch transfer of music, as well as a seamless connection between multiple devices. Hence, it will be worth watching what upgrades Sound Joy 2 will bring over its predecessor.

Huawei has recently filed an innovative patent entitled ‘Flying Robot’. The new patent application involves the usage of airbags, which hints that the Chinese tech maker is working on some autonomous aircraft-related solutions or drone products.

Huawei applied for the respective patent two years back on September 26, 2022, and got approval from the China Intellectual Property Office on March 26, 2024.

Further details showcase that the new Huawei Patent ‘Flying Robot’ has the publication number CN117755470A. Here, Huawei is serving as the main applicant while including inventors like Tao Qiuyang, Wang Bo, Zhao Yao, and Du Peng.

Huawei patent Flying Robot

Huawei issues new Flying Robot patent (Image Credits: MyDrivers)

How does the patent work?

The Flying Robot mechanism requires an airbag surrounded by four strong-level thrusters and propellers. Here, a thruster is a device that integrates into the spacecraft (rocket, spaceship) for attitude control, low-duration, and low-thrust elevation.

The company initially fills the airbag with helium gas and sets it corresponding to 3D coordinates – X-axis, Y-axis, and Z-axis. Here the Z-axis refers to the height of the airbag.

Once settled with the coordinates, the first propeller will link to the airbag. These objects (airbag, propeller, and four thrusters) will connect over a plane surface characterized by the X and Y axes, to maintain the symmetrical scenario.

Two adjacent propellers will also be arranged equally to the X-axis and Y-axis. Note that the two thrusts produced by these two propellers are not parallel or perpendicular on either of the axes.

When a specific arrangement is ready around the airbag, it will let the respective mechanism move in all directions horizontally like left, right, back, and forth, rotating around the Z-axis.

It is worth mentioning that the new flying robot filled with helium gas is capable of achieving a trouble-free flight and one can use it indoors. It won’t cause any damage due to inexplosive materials, even when ruptured by a needle or other object.

The information also points out that has improved battery life and noise-controlling facilities, compared to other drones. The machine is cost-effective and eco-friendly.

Huawei is planning to boost the smart car solutions business to raise cash for chips, AI, and other products. The company is finding a useful way to stand firm against challenges that arrived due to U.S. restrictions. Perhaps, the auto solution is one of the best options.

The Chinese tech giant got stuck in the U.S. sanction in 2019 in the name of security threat. Eventually, this prohibition cut around 28% of the total revenue for two years: 2020 to 2022. It seems as if the Huawei smart car solution business will help to retain this loss.

Huawei’s Smart Car Solutions: History

According to the information, the 2022 sales revenue of Huawei smart car solutions was around $256 million. Though it is a smaller amount, it still aids the company in raising the overall cash collection for the other significant segments of the industry.

Even though Huawei doesn’t make cars and does not own the automobile business, it helps other car manufacturers develop intelligent vehicles via its advanced and valuable automobile solutions. For instance, HarmonyOS smart cockpit, ADS 2.0, lidar, camera, and more.

Huawei smart car business raise cash

On the flip side, the tech giant continues to collaborate with Chinese car makers to hype its industry supply chain in the native region. A good example is the AITO M7 launched in September 2023, which collected over 80000 orders within 50 days of unveiling.

The company has also insisted top tech giants like Mercedes and Audi invest in its smart car software and relevant hardware firms. This association will further help in expanding the smart car solution business outside the home ground.

Although things aren’t that easy. The demand for Chinese smart cars and EVs slowed down in recent times. Moreover, the U.S. ban tag on Huawei makes it inferior to foreign automobile corporations.

Yet, Huawei is joining hands with firms like SERES, Chery, BAIC, and more to strengthen its smart car solutions surface. These are major exporters and could bring new opportunities. This is how Huawei expects that the elevation in the smart car solutions business will raise cash for the chip, AI, and other important developments.

On September 11, China’s e-commerce industry went on its largest sales session ever under the Double 11 AKA Single Day sales, it’s also reported that this one-day sales event has brought major profit for the entire e-commerce platform.

Alibaba Group-owned Tmall and Taobao e-commerce sites have reported positive year-on-year growth during this year’s Double 11 sales period.

On the other hand, the most popular online store – JD.com said it has received the highest-ever response from customers this season.

Each year, the Chinese online platform celebrates a 24-hour online shopping event. However, major retailers and shopkeepers promoted this event many weeks earlier than November 11.

Smartphone companies including Huawei, Apple, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Honor, and others are also offering major discounts to increase sales during this sales carnival. However, smartphones and other consumer devices on their online store are likely to keep the offers available for a few weeks more as compared to major e-commerce sites.

Huawei Mate 60 series offline sale

For now, the profits in number are not out at the moment. Last year, Double 11 sales in 2022 generated about 1.15 trillion yuan ($157.97 billion) worth of sales, reveals data from consultancy firm Bain.

Chipmaker Qualcomm and satellite services provider Iridium announced the end of their partnership on Thursday, which also wraps up Qualcomm’s satellite communication smartphone ambitions for the global market.

Following this announcement, Iridium’s stock fell over 8% in after-hours trading from its close at $37.14. The company said in its press release that both Qualcomm and Iridium successfully developed the technology required to enable satellite SMS services in smartphone devices.

However, it also said that companies are not keen on using this satellite SMS in their new smartphones, which led to the termination of this partnership.

Qualcomm satellite communication

Qualcomm officially announced this new “Snapdragon Satellite, a satellite-based two-way SMS solution for flagship smartphones at CES 2023. The tech was adapted for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 platform, but no smartphone maker launched phones with this capability since its announcement.

Meanwhile, Huawei and Apple are the only phone makers that won the satellite phone race back in 2022. Huawei introduced the Mate 50 Pro featuring the first-ever satellite messaging feature. This feature received upgrades with Huawei P60 Pro with two-way communication.

Recently, Huawei unveiled the Mate 60 Pro with the world’s first satellite calling feature in a smartphone. This also garnered a huge attraction in the Chinese market and praise for such innovation.

There are reports that Huawei’s competitors are also working on satellite SMS features and may launch new phones featuring this technology.
