An app developer recently pointed out that HarmonyOS NEXT is a good, unified, but closed operating system. He said that the new software is similar to Apple iOS in some aspects and requires a few changes to offer the best user experience.

Wang Boli – an app developer explored the HarmonyOS NEXT beta build and tries its features. During his exploration, Wang discovered that the new Huawei HarmonyOS NEXT is a closed operating system, similar to iOS.

Simply put, the new HarmonyOS version doesn’t support smartphones or devices from other brands. It will only work with Huawei products as it is a closed operating system just like Apple iOS.

Wang further said HarmonyOS NEXT is a unified and complete operating system. Yet it seems a bit difficult to understand in some aspects. Whereas, the third-party OS(s) appears relatively simple with minimalistic features.

The app developer anticipates that Huawei will enhance the new OS and make it even better in the future. We can expect more interesting changes as well.

HarmonyOS NEXT is based on OpenHarmony, an open-source distributed operating system. Huawei says that the new OS is a true and real operating system.

Unlike the previous versions, HarmonyOS NEXT doesn’t contain any U.S.-based components. For instance, Linux, other system kernels, programming languages, and more.

But since it eliminates Android codes, it loses the points of supporting other apps except for the native ones. Yu Chengdong – the Chairman of Huawei Consumer Business said that HarmonyOS NEXT will connect many devices under various scenarios.

Huawei has achieved an operating system in 10 years that took the US and Europe 30 years to develop. It will slowly bring more new changes and useful enhancements that can be beneficial for users and other customers in every manner.

HarmonyOS NEXT is running in the public beta phase and might go stable later this month. A new leak says that Huawei could officially unveil its all-new self-developed operating system in October. Probably, we may get an official statement tomorrow.

Tipster UncleKanshan has recently received a notification regarding the new software. The alert reads that Huawei might launch the HarmonyOS NEXT stable version later this month. However, the exact release date is still unconfirmed.

Huawei launched the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta program on October 8. Based on the past revelations, the tipster said that the company could showcase the official version tomorrow (October 15). The news ultimately raised users’ excitement.

The latest information seems accurate. Several early inputs claimed that HarmonyOS NEXT will likely go official in October this year. One of the company’s executives even said that the stable version of the new software will meet consumers in Q4 2024.

In that case, the leaked timeline could be correct to some extent. But we have to wait for an official confirmation before jumping to any conclusions on this matter.

HarmonyOS NEXT stable this month

Apart from the software info, the leak mentions that Huawei will release its flagship products in mid-November. The date is marked XX (double digit), which hints the Mate 70 or Mate X6 launch will take place in second/third week of next month.

Some netizens asked if the company will unveil any new small-sized tablets this year. In response, the tipster said that details are currently unknown. Judging from the previous 3C listings and revelations, Huawei may launch more tablets this year.

HarmonyOS NEXT

HarmonyOS NEXT has been distributed in two parts. The first batch of devices is fetching the public beta upgrade (Check the public beta update changelog HERE). Meanwhile, the second batch models are ready for the closed beta version.

The speed in the HarmonyOS NEXT beta rollouts among eligible devices hints that Huawei could unveil the new software’s stable version this month.

Mate 70 series will come with the pre-installed HarmonyOS NEXT. Other devices like the Mate 60 series, Mate X5, and MatePad Pro 13.2 will likely be the first to get the official version. You can check the HarmonyOS NEXT Upgrade Plan HERE.

Huawei users are eagerly waiting for the HarmonyOS NEXT stable version and this wait could end by mid-October. A new leak now gives a more clear timeline for the official release of the self-developed software system.

Early news said that Chen Xinxin – a Huawei official confirmed the release of HarmonyOS NEXT by the end of this month. But later, a tipster refuted this input saying that consumers have to wait till October to experience the new software.

Now @FixedFocus has said that HarmonyOS NEXT stable version could launch by mid-October. The tipster mentioned that HarmonyOS NEXT will battle with Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Judging from this statement, it seems the software may launch before Qualcomm’s next-gen flagship chipset.

Qualcomm is expected to unveil its new chip around October 21st. Perhaps, HarmonyOS NEXT may go official before this date. A few netizens said that Huawei might release the stable version right after the Spring Festival (from October 1 to 7).

Thus, we have an expected timeline for HarmonyOS NEXT stable launch: October 8 to 20. However, only Huawei can confirm the accuracy of these revelations.

If we look back, Huawei began rolling out the HarmonyOS 4 stable version in August 2023. But this time, the story is different as HarmonyOS NEXT is a real and self-developed operating system. It is free of traditional Android components like Linux.

The software is also faster, smoother, and safer than its previous versions. At the same time, the company is trying to adapt native HarmonyOS apps for a more convenient and reliable user experience.

Yu Chengdong confirmed that HarmonyOS NEXT stable version will meet consumers in Spring. Hence, the software development and current leaks seem on the right track. Things will get more clear in the coming days. Till then, you can have a look at HarmonyOS NEXT capabilities below.

Huawei is preparing several products for the upcoming months including both hardware and software. A new leak on this topic says that Huawei might introduce the HarmonyOS 4.4 software system with a new giant smart TV later this month.

UncleKanshan reveals the details of Smart TV V5 Max 110-inch. The device is expected to launch this month with a giant screen and interesting smart capabilities.

Adding more, the tipster says Huawei Smart TV V5 Max 110-inch may also be the first to pre-install HarmonyOS 4.4 OS. The new software features are a secret for now. But if true, users could find better enhancements than the previous version.

It is unclear how accurate the current leak is. Huawei has already confirmed to launch the official HarmonyOS NEXT by the end of this month. On the other hand, it hasn’t mentioned a new HarmonyOS 4.4 version for its devices so far.

Also, one would expect HarmonyOS 4.3 after the 4.2 build, and not the 4.4. Many netizens asked whether this upgrade would be available to other devices. However, the tipster hasn’t responded with any further details regarding the new software.

HarmonyOS 4.4 hints that Huawei could either introduce a separate OS for its smart TVs or may bring a small improvements update before the official release of the HarmonyOS NEXT. But it’s better to take this leak with a grain of salt for now.

Smart TV V5 Max 110-inch

The tipster reveals that the upcoming giant smart TV will bear a SuperMini LED screen with cutting-edge technology. It claims to offer 5000 nits peak brightness. It means users will get improved image quality with more appealing and vibrant visuals. It may also bring anti-reflection properties for an efficient experience.

Other parameters include 5040 dynamic partitions with a 91% of BT2020 color gamut. This gamut includes a wide color gamut for ultra-high-definition TV. It covers a larger area compared to other gamuts and ensures that color appears more accurately.

V5 Max 110-inch would be the biggest Huawei smart TV. Meanwhile, its key specs seem quite amazing. Although an official confirmation awaits for this device.

Huawei HiSilicon Connect Conference will happen next month and it seems the company’s chip unit may announce breakthrough news at this event. The upcoming event has already started fueling speculations of success amid U.S. sanctions.

The Huawei HiSilicon Connect Conference will held from September 9-10 in Shenzhen. At this event, the company will talk about its solutions for semiconductors. It will also discuss factors that can accelerate the technological growth in China.

But ahead of this event, the chip unit is in talks about a breakthrough – officially forming a Huawei-centered tech ecosystem, from chip design to operating systems.

The new event has not only raised discussions among netizens but also resulted in surging stock prices. A HiSilicon products supplier – Shenzhen Huaqiang warned investors regarding ‘uncertainties’ for the upcoming new product launch event.

It stated so, following the unit’s stock price that increased by the daily limit of 10% last week. It also added that the company will redouble its efforts to promote and expand new HiSilicon products in the market. This again pushed the stock to a 10% increase.

Huizhong Instrumentation, which makes ultrasonic flow measuring devices using HiSilicon chips also saw a hike of 40% in its stock for two days last week. But the shares fell to 19% after it said that it doesn’t buy these SoCs directly from Huawei.

The Chinese OEM hasn’t commented on this topic so far. However, the upcoming HiSilicon event will likely open up big news related to the chip and its progress.

It will further shed light on Huawei’s long journey toward chip technology and breakthroughs. The company has come a long way for its chipset capabilities that it kept developing under the HiSilicon umbrella despite tightened U.S. restrictions.

Huawei and HiSilicon’s situation was immensely good before it was hit by the U.S. ban. The company used to hold a 16% share of the worldwide application processors in 2020 alongside Kirin chip shipment for Huawei devices. But this figure become zero by 2022 following the foreign trade export challenges and supply chain issues.

HiSilicon was even capable of competing with Intel and Qualcomm with its advanced tech. However, the table turned after the U.S. started eyeing the company. It seems things are once again on the verge of turning in favor of Huawei with a chip breakthrough.

Huawei is making efforts to make its devices independent of foreign components and OS(s). The phone, watch, and tablet section is already booked by HarmonyOS NEXT. After Android, it seems Huawei is now eyeing to kick out Windows from China.

The Chinese tech giant is seemingly set to challenge Windows as well as macOS with its alleged HarmonyOS PC software system. Before we jump into the details, let’s briefly explore Huawei’s new operating system journey in the home ground.

HarmonyOS NEXT vs Android

At the onset of this year, Huawei introduced HarmonyOS NEXT – a true and real operating system. By ‘real’, it means that the OS is free of U.S.-based components and Android. The aim is to break the rule of the foreign OS platforms in the native region.

The official details reveal that Huawei removed all source code linked to Android or Linux and seeded self-developed components to its new operating system.

HarmonyOS NEXT base elements include Pangu AI model, ArkUI-X programming framework, HarmonyOS Design, MindSpore AI Framework, Harmony kernel (3 times more efficient than Linux), Ark Compiler, Cangjie language, and DevEco Studio.

Huawei even moved away from the Android Open Source Project in favor of a custom OS architecture. In other words, HarmonyOS NEXT won’t support Google or Android-compatible apps in the future. Yet, it will improve the performance of Huawei devices.

The work is already in action as Huawei partnered with several app developers. Many of the Android alternative apps began adapting to the HarmonyOS-based native app versions. The company will also introduce some of the game apps on July 26.

Other app examples count WeChat, a Chinese alternative to Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, Bilibili, Taobao, Yiche, and more. This shows that the U.S. sanctions have ultimately made the company more independent and powerful in China.

HarmonyOS PC vs Windows: Huawei’s next goal?

Apart from HarmonyOS NEXT, the Chinese OEM is also working on a computer-dedicated software HarmonyOS PC. Huawei’s former executive – Wang Chenglu said last year that the firm is developing a new PC software and could launch in 2024.

Many leaks mentioned that the new PC software will arrive this year. Even though the company has not officially announced this matter yet. But a recent revelation points out that Huawei could introduce the HarmonyOS PC in the upcoming months.

Some snaps on the official Huawei Developer website allegedly show the HarmonyOS PC UI layout. The overall view of the PC interface appears quite similar to macOS. Meanwhile, the minimalistic look and efficiency seem more effective than Windows.

The leak further highlights audio, video, social, networking, and many other applications on the PC. The outlook appears spacious with easy-to-navigate features.

Chinese government is constantly backing Huawei for its HarmonyOS ecosystem development. Perhaps the results will be visible on this matter with HarmonyOS NEXT stable version release in the fourth quarter of this year.

At the same time, the company might also introduce the most-awaited computer-dedicated software. With similar or even better features for HarmonyOS PC, Huawei might oust Windows from China, following Android exit.

Huawei HarmonyOS has been battling with Apple iOS for a long time in China and in Q1 2024, the Chinese tech maker surpassed its rival with a gradual increase. A recent report by Counterpoint shed light on the performance of smartphone OS(s).

The analytical data shows that HarmonyOS has performed quite well in both Chinese and global markets. Whereas, Apple iOS had significantly declined worldwide due to new features and GenAI capabilities that are available only for Android devices.

Further details show that HarmonyOS has doubled its shares on the global surface from 2 to 4%. Speaking of its home ground, the OS gained 17% shares in China.

Compared to the last quarter (Q4 2023), HarmonyOS shares increased by 1%. Yet it’s a remarkable growth and signifies more achievements for Huawei in the future.

This is the first time that Huawei HarmonyOS has overtaken Apple iOS in China (Q1 2024). Counterpoint highlights that this shift is due to the huge support of Chinese customers for native products rather than going for foreign-made devices.

Factors of Achievement

Huawei regained its position back in the Chinese smartphone market through the return of Kirin 5G chips with Mate 60 series. 5G adoption is another reason why consumers chose Huawei flagship models over other phones in China.

Due to 5G network support, the HarmonyOS adaptation jumped from 9% in Q1 2023 to 50% in the first quarter of this year. As Huawei continues to focus on supply chain matters, market conditions could become more favorable for it in the time ahead.

Apple iOS on the other hand dropped by 4% in the Q1 2024 Chinese smartphone OS market. “One man’s loss is another man’s gain” and so is the situation with Huawei, which has now started pacing ahead in the OS race.

The launch of the stable HarmonyOS NEXT version is still a big question and a new leak suggests that the respective software system will go official in September this year. But it is still unclear whether we will see the Mate 70 flagship alongside or not!

Weibo tech-savvy @DigitalChatStation says that Huawei has internally set the HarmonyOS NEXT stable version release for September. Even though the OEM has not announced this matter officially, the leak is in line with a few previous revelations.

Further details in the leak point out that other devices like new flagship phones, foldable, mid-range handsets, tablets, and smartwatches are also in the pipeline. These will likely show up on the user floor somewhere in the second half of this year.

Expected Products for H2 2024:

  • Mate 70 Series
  • Mate X6 Foldable
  • Watch GT 5

Huawei has not confirmed the news yet and we need to wait for official words on this matter. Probably, the company is cooking new offerings for its consumers.

HarmonyOS NEXT & Mate 70

Some inputs revealed that the flagship Huawei Mate 70 series will arrive in September or mid-October this year with the pre-installed HarmonyOS NEXT software system.

Confirming this statement to an extent, the Rotating Chairman of Huawei – Xu Zhijun cited that HarmonyOS NEXT stable will roll out later this year. Note that the executive didn’t mention the exact timeline for the upcoming products’ release.

For HarmonyOS NEXT, the tech maker has locked the HDC 2024 event for June 21 where it will launch the beta version. Hereafter, top flagship models will get the chance to test the impressive features of the brand-new operating system.

Up to this point, more than 4000 apps have adapted to the HarmonyOS NEXT. The aim is to expand the HarmonyOS ecosystem for apps, and devices, and even introduce it in the global market. Perhaps the speed hints that Huawei won’t take much time to achieve the new target.

Huawei is building an independent and reliable software ecosystem with HarmonyOS NEXT and the new development will help the company to get a complete break from Android. That says a new report, hinting at OEM’s moves on the software path.

Even though Huawei hasn’t made any such official statement, the speedy HarmonyOS NEXT development implies that the company might dump Android completely by the end of this year. The firm is also focusing on a more definitive app ecosystem.

The HarmonyOS NEXT operating system is said to launch with the Mate 70 series later this year. Huawei already unveiled its developer preview in January for app developers, while the stable version will likely hit the consumer surface in Q1 2024.

New self-developed OS is entirely different from what we have seen in the past versions. It doesn’t rely on traditional Linux and is standalone on Harmony kernel which is 3 times more efficient and reduces overall power consumption. Read More…

Huawei being ready to cut off with the Android OS completely this year raises certain questions in minds. Let’s try to understand them one by one in detail.

HarmonyOS NEXT for the global market?

During the Analyst Summit 2024, the Rotating Chairman of Huawei – Xu Zhijun mentioned that the company plans HarmonyOS expansion for its global consumers.

Huawei HarmonyOS NEXT Android

HarmonyOS NEXT will help Huawei to break free of Android (Image Credits: Huawei)

While the Chinese OEM ships its smartphones in the global market with pre-install EMUI versions, it now aims to feed these devices with HarmonyOS NEXT build via native apps. Xu cited that initially, Huawei will work on a firm HarmonyOS app ecosystem in the home ground and then move to the regions outside China.

Chinese App Developers

It is worth noting that most developers participating in the HarmonyOS NEXT app ecosystem belong to China and not from the global regions. Thus it is unclear how the tech maker will ditch Android completely from its device and software ecosystem.

Android support for global phones!

Huawei allegedly said earlier that global phones won’t lose Android support so easily. It serves smartwatches and tablets in the global market with HarmonyOS while using Android-based EMUI for phones. Hence, it is unclear how the HarmonyOS journey will move to the global sector.

Huawei has taken a step towards a major change in the software aspect. It has already completed over 4000 app adaptations for the HarmonyOS NEXT-based versions. The OEM also looks forward to imposing its new self-developed OS on many smart products like wearables and IoT devices.

News regarding Huawei suggests that the company has recently registered for a new trademark named ‘PuraOS’. From the name, it seems the tech giant could be planning to develop a customized operating system for the newly launched Pura 70 series.

The trademark information reveals that the Huawei PuraOS comes under the scientific instrument category. Although it is currently in the pending substantive review status. It is unclear how much time will it take to get the official approval on this subject.

Huawei has recently introduced the Pura brand as an upgraded version of the P series. After the brand unveiling, the company also launched the all-new Pura 70 series.

With the new PuraOS trademark, it looks like the Chinese tech giant has some more interesting plans for the new Pura lineup. A few netizens even predicted that this could be a specialized operating system for the Pura 70 series, making it more independent.

If this is the accurate plan, then PuraOS could be a beneficial step for the company’s growth with a different perspective. Although things are still uncertain and Huawei has not confirmed the news yet. Hence we have to wait for official words on this matter.

Huawei has been working on the Pura brand for years and things started taking new shape in this subject. It would be worth seeing what else the company will introduce in this category in the coming time.
