It’s October 8 and Huawei launches the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta program for its eligible devices. The company has opened public testing for selected handset users. However, the current activity will soon be expanded to more devices.

HarmonyOS NEXT public beta program has brought an end to the long-running anticipation of consumers. Previous testing versions were limited to developers and early adopters. But now the company has extended the testing to public testers.

Up to this point, the company has pushed off several developer beta builds for experienced software testers. Now the new self-developed software is open to general device users to explore new features before the stable release.

The tech giant has launched the latest beta activity for the first batch of devices. The list includes Mate 60 series, Mate X5 foldable, and MatePad Pro 13.2 tablet.

Simply put, the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta version will be available to these device users right after they sign up in the current testing pool. They don’t have to wait for the rollout like the closed beta devices (Pura 70, Pocket 2, and more).

How to sign up?

Eligible device users can check the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta activity on the My Huawei app. Open the application and select the “Upgrade” or “Upgrade to Try” option. Wait for a few minutes and follow the on-screen prompts to register.

After completing the signup, users will immediately get the new public beta update with some interesting features and a set of new improvements. Users may also get a chance to test the new native HarmonyOS app versions and their changes.

Users can further share their feedback, and suggestions, or report issues using the My Huawei app > Community. It will eventually help in improving the software.

Points to remember

HarmonyOS NEXT public beta activity will push testing builds to devices. Being a new software, the installation may lead to the deletion of your data. Hence, it is better to take a backup beforehand to avoid any data loss.

Also, the company is still adapting some applications to HarmonyOS. It will detect and prompt the apps that are not available in the HarmonyOS NEXT AppGallery. However, if you face abnormal functioning with any app then don’t worry, as it is a normal software behavior.

Huawei is ready to launch the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta next week. The company has scheduled the new software testing program for October 8. This new testing build will offer a more effective and productive experience to Huawei device owners.

Are you excited about HarmonyOS NEXT public beta going live next week? Let’s take a look at some key points that will ease the software testing for users.

The HarmonyOS NEXT public beta activity will happen for selected device users. These are the first batch models that have been a constant part of new software testing:

  • Mate 60
  • Mate 60 Pro
  • Mate 60 Pro+
  • Mate 60 RS Ultimate Design
  • Mate X5
  • Mate X5 Collector’s Edition
  • MatePad Pro 13.2
  • MatePad Pro 13.2 Collector’s Edition

Other flagship models like the Pura 70 series, Pocket 2, and MatePad Pro 11 2024 may join this list in the coming weeks. Till then, make sure that your device is up-to-date and has sufficient storage space as the beta build weighs more than a GB.

Unlike previous HarmonyOS versions, the HarmonyOS NEXT rollout could be different. It doesn’t support any Android codes or apps. It uses Huawei’s self-developed OS components like Harmony kernel which is 3x more efficient than Linux.

This means that HarmonyOS NEXT could be incompatible with some apps on your device. Hence, don’t panic if a few apps work abnormally after the beta installation. Also, you may get chance to explore many native apps alongside the new beta update.

HarmonyOS NEXT closed beta

The company recently kicked off the HarmonyOS NEXT.0.0.70 beta version for eligible devices. The list includes both first and second-batch models. It comes with over 1GB of OTA update package and contains several features to improve user experience.

Notably, users must have sufficient storage space in their devices. We advise at least 5GB of free space in your phones or tablets as the package size may vary depending on the model.

Bugs and Backup

Since it’s a beta activity, there may be some serious bugs and software issues in the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta. However, it’s a completely normal behavior of ‘under-development’ software. Still, we suggest proceeding at your risk for the upgrade.

Also, this is a completely new and different software version from the past builds. The installation might delete all the previous data on your device. Therefore, we recommend a full backup of your handset to avoid any kind of data loss.

How to register?

Eligible device users can apply for the public beta activity via the My Huawei App. Go to the Me section and select the Join Beta Project. Tap on the available Beta Program. Fill in your correct details and apply. One can share feedback or report issues through the same app or using the Huawei Community.

HarmonyOS NEXT Features:

The new software upgrade focuses on six major aspects: native apps, native security, native refinements, native smoothness, native intelligence, and native interconnectivity. Some key implementations in the new software are:

Let’s see what else the company will introduce with the upcoming HarmonyOS NEXT public beta program next week.

Huawei has officially scheduled the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta program for October 8. With the latest software news, the company has marked an end to rumors and speculations over the HarmonyOS NEXT stable version release.

The tech giant announced the news during the Huawei September 2024 launch event for wearables. As per the details, HarmonyOS NEXT public beta program will launch on October 8. Users can prepare their phones for this new testing activity.

Public Beta refers to a testing program that allows a large number of users to explore and inspect a new software version before its official rollout. This program aims to further improve the software based on the feedback or reported issues.

HarmonyOS NEXT has been in beta versions for a few months. Huawei launched the first developer beta after the HDC 2024 event. By August 2024, the company opened the closed beta program for more devices like Pura 70, Pocket 2, etc.

A few days ago, a Huawei official – Chen Xinxin stated that Huawei will launch the HarmonyOS NEXT stable by the end of this month. The news reported by local media resulted in several online rumors. Some tipsters refuted the information saying that Huawei will release HarmonyOS NEXT stable in October.

The mist is finally clear. The company is now ready to initiate the first HarmonyOS NEXT public beta program. Perhaps, the stable version may launch by October-end. Huawei could also directly introduce it with the Mate 70 flagship in November.

Inputs further reveal that the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta first batch will contain three device series: Mate 60 series, Mate X5 series, and the MatePad Pro 13.2.

These models are currently compatible with the native HarmonyOS public beta. But Huawei may soon bring more devices to the public testing list. For instance, Pura 70 phones, Pocket 2 foldable, FreeBuds Pro 3, MatePad Pro 11, and more.

How to register?

The corresponding device owners can apply for the public test through the My Huawei App. Just go to the Me section, select Join Project, and tap on the available Beta Program. Fill in your details and tap on the submit button.

Users can also share their suggestions, and feedback, or report issues using the My Huawei App or the official Huawei Community.
