A Weibo tipster recently mentioned that HarmonyOS NEXT will make the camera and gallery access more secure in the future. The new OS version could further enhance the security aspects to safeguard users’ privacy and data on their devices.

Tipster @AdakFenglangjuxu says that Huawei could make the camera and gallery access much safer with the future HarmonyOS NEXT updates. He shared his experience with the new software beta regarding systems and third-party apps.

Most apps, especially social ones require access to the gallery and camera for media content sharing. Although this permission often raises security concerns.

But HarmonyOS NEXT ensures secure access to both these system apps in every manner. The tipster says the HarmonyOS NEXT gallery ensures all apps have safer access at all times. It validates if images/videos are obtained via secure access controls.

Adak reveals two methods to access the gallery app:

The first one uses the device system’s component to obtain data. For instance, the Mee Time app directly uses the Image Picker to access the gallery app. It supports the device system’s component to control and obtain the data.

WeChat, on the flip side, uses its UI design to control access. It doesn’t directly support the device’s system components for every app.

Most of the applications such as the GoPaint app or Weibo use the second type (their own UI design) to access the gallery app rather than the device system’s component.

HarmonyOS NEXT camera gallery access

This might appear as insecure access to many users. The same goes for the camera app. Adak says that the camera should have a preview frame in real-time before scanning double QR codes and beauty cameras.

Such apps and services have their algorithms to access the camera which may not be secure in every manner. Note that these don’t harm your data but can’t be said safe as well. Following these points, Huawei could boost its security for gallery and camera access with the upcoming HarmonyOS NEXT versions.

The respective app already supports many MatePad tablets. However, the Chinese tech giant launch more such applications in the future to offer a better and more reliable experience on tablets.

The PC-level applications could also come to the existing tablets in the time ahead. Other details on this matter are currently unknown.

Huawei has introduced several tablets this year. The new launches count MatePad Pro 12.2, MatePad 12 X (Air 2024), MatePad 11.5 S, MatePad SE 11 2024, and more. It also announced new commercial tablets like the Qingyun C7.

At the same time, the company is defeating its rivals in the Chinese tablet market every quarter. The OEM shipped 20.5 million tablets in the second quarter of this year and earned a market share of 26%. This increases its annual growth by 66%.

Meanwhile, changes like PC-level apps and productivity for the upcoming MatePad tablets will boost Huawei’s shares in the Chinese tablet market, giving a tougher spot to Apple iPads.

Huawei officially announced the launch of HarmonyOS NEXT by the end of this month however, a tipster says otherwise. A new input reveals that the company could still delay the HarmonyOS NEXT official version release till next month.

Tipster @DirectorShiGuan said that there won’t be any HarmonyOS NEXT launch at the end of this month. The previous information has been revised again and Huawei smartphone users should keep patience till next month (October 2024).

Isn’t it a bit strange? One of the Huawei officials – Chen Xinxin said that the HarmonyOS NEXT launch will happen by the end of this month. This news was reported by local media covering the China International Fair Trade-In Service event.

But let’s recall Huawei’s official words during the HDC 2024 event for HarmonyOS NEXT. Yu Chengdong, the Chairman of the company’s Consumer Business Group said that HarmonyOS NEXT official version will meet users in Q4 2024.

Yu didn’t reveal the exact timeline. In that case, the tipster’s point seems accurate to some extent. Another point of view is, Huawei could introduce HarmonyOS NEXT stable version this month while initiate the rollout for flagship models next month.

The Chinese tech giant is likely to host a launch event in China on September 24. If the previous report is true, the company will surely share HarmonyOS NEXT details during the event. Or else, we have to hold our patience till the next month.

Huawei vs Honor – next month?

The tipster further states that two tech giants probably Huawei and Honor, will rival each other next month for their flagship models and a new OS. He adds that this would be the first time that both firms will have a head-on moment after their separation.

The flagship models here might refer to the Mate 70 and Magic 7 series. But previous revelations say that both lineups could launch in November this year. Let’s see how far the current information will appear to be true in the time ahead.

A Weibo tipster reported that the SMIC 5nm process has ‘better than expected’ power efficiency, and this seems good news for future Huawei phones. The alleged chipset technology is in testing and may enter mass production by the end of this year.

Tipster @DigitalChatStation says that the SMIC 5nm process tech will likely have better power efficiency than expected. The node could be able to boost performance significantly. It is currently in development but could soon land on official platform.

It’s surprising news amid the chip war between the U.S. and China. The former restricted its suppliers from selling advanced chip-making equipment to the latter.

However, the latest leak says that SMIC somehow managed to develop a 5nm process. It further confirms a previous report on this matter saying that the chipmaker used DUV machines to build new tech and may soon impose them on devices.

Read More:

If the current leak is accurate, then it could be good news for future Huawei phones. Note that the tipster didn’t mention if the next Kirin chip for Mate 70 models will use this 5nm node. Perhaps the company might settle with a 7nm process for now.

SMIC 5nm power efficiency

Yet the latest development hints that the processor tech might change for next year’s Huawei flagship smartphones. Hence, we can expect to see a 5nm Kirin chip with Pura 80 or Mate 80 products. Again, an official statement on this matter awaits.

Neither Huawei nor SMIC has commented on this headline.

Using DUV equipment brings several obstacles for SMIC. For instance, it requires more time and money in wafer fabrication. An estimation said that the SMIC 5nm process could be 50% more expensive than TSMC.

But as per a popular phrase, ‘something is better than nothing’. Over time, the chipmaker might resolve these issues and find an effective solution.

Huawei is allegedly developing a next-gen Kirin chip which was in the rumor to outshine Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. But a tipster has now refuted this buzz. As per his details, Mate 70 series could be another Huawei flagship running on the 7nm process.

X tipster @myplace_myworld claims that the rumor of the next-gen Kirin chip surpassing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is false. The input was initially reported by tipster Jason Will, saying that Huawei’s chip would perform better than Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

The new input also denies the upcoming Kirin chipset to be faster than 9000s and its power efficiency will be close enough to that of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

With these points, it appears that Huawei is struggling to develop a 5nm process chip. An early report said that SMIC has developed a 5nm chip technology without any advanced equipment. Probably the new tech could show up with the Mate 70 flagship.

Other details added that the Chinese phone maker initiated a small-scale production of its alleged 5nm chip. But the latest information has questioned all previous claims.

It further indicates that the Huawei Mate 70 series will likely use a new Kirin chip but based on a 7nm process. Perhaps the company has to work more on producing a 5nm chip technology and we can expect it to arrive by the next or forthcoming years.

Kirin Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 rumor

Rumor of next Kirin outperforming Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 seems fake (Image Credits: MyplaceMyworld/X)

A major reason behind Huawei being backward in the chip race is the use of outdated chip equipment. Following the tough U.S. export trade restrictions, the company cannot obtain advanced chipmaking tools from the foreign market that help in the 5nm making.

The next reason could be expenses. As per a report, SMIC 5nm process expected to be 50% more expensive than TSMC, despite using the same lithography equipment. It is so because SMIC still has a shortage of EUV machines. On the flip side, outdated machinery leads to higher production costs with lower yield rates.

Note that the current rumor rejection fits accurately with Huawei’s statement. During a conference, Zhang Pingan – the Executive Director of Huawei said that the company will focus on resolving 7nm issues rather than moving towards a new technology.

Huawei says that the lack of innovative chips is not the problem until the company knows how to enhance a chip’s capabilities. Thus, the Mate 70 series could deliver improved and upgraded performance over its predecessors, if not to the level of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1/2/3 chipsets.

Huawei Mate 70 series will likely use a powerful Kirin chip that might challenge Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 or Dimensity 9400-powered devices. That says a Weibo tipster, after evaluating the launch timeline of new processors as well as flagship devices.

As noted by tipster @DigitalChatStation, the Dimensity 9400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processors could launch in October this year. Many premium smartphones will be released equipped with these chips by the end of Q4 or early 2025.

The same time frame is also set for the Mate 70 series. Huawei has not mentioned the exact launch month. But it said that the flagship lineup will launch in Q4 2024.

Estimating the overall scenario, the tipster said that there could be tough competition in the smartphone market. Probably, Huawei Mate 70 models (especially high-end variants) might challenge Dimensity 9400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 devices.

Huawei Mate 70 Snapdragon Dimensity

The Chinese OEM still lags when it comes to advanced smartphone chips. The tech world is running behind the 2nm/3nm process. However, Huawei continues to struggle to develop 5nm chipsets due to a lack of appropriate chipmaking equipment.

Yet some rumors claim that a 5nm Kirin chip is underway and could show up with the Mate 70 series. This alleged processor expected to be more robust, and energy efficient than all the previous Kirin chip variants. Read more details HERE.

Another reason that makes the Mate 70 series appear as a tough rival for others is HarmonyOS NEXT. The lineup will come with the newest software system out of the box. Huawei claims this to be the real operating system, without any Android part.

HarmonyOS NEXT focuses on six major aspects: native apps, security, smoothness, intelligence, interconnectivity, and refinements. During the HarmonyOS NEXT developer beta release, Huawei introduced many useful app optimizations and AI features that can enhance the user experience over the previous upgrades.

Camera and Satellite features are the next in the queue. Pura 70 Ultra recently grabbed the “best camera” crown. Huawei aims to maintain this trend with the next flagship.

The company may also upgrade the satellite communication tech for the Mate 70 series. There could be more surprises than ‘SMS/calling or image sending’ capabilities. Both these sections are currently a secret but we may find new revelations in the time ahead.

Overall, the Huawei Mate 70 series might catch up with its rivals in the consumer market to some extent.
