Meta is shutting down its Messenger lite app for Android users in September this year. The company gave this information officially to the app itself.

On the opening screen, the app now shows a “use Messenger to keep chatting” prompt. Messenger Lite will no longer be available after September 18. There will be no impact on conversation history: “We know your chats are important to you, so everything from Messenger Lite is still available in Messenger.”.

Additionally, the app’s listing is now removed from the Play Store but you can still load it from third-party sources.

Facebook launched Messenger Lite as a low-resource mobile application, which is designed for low-end devices. The concept for this is simple, it cuts down complicated services and brings down a simple and easy-to-render UI. Thus making it efficient for low-memory devices.

Currently, there’s no specific reason available for this change but it’s certain that the company no longer prefers low-end smartphones and Android devices for this messaging capability.

Xiaomi has silently removed its Mi Music app from Google Play Store. The app was used to stream music and play songs on Xiaomi’s Android devices.

China-based phone maker launched the Mi Music app in partnership with the Indian entertainment company Hungama in 2018 to provide music streaming to its customers.

Archived pages on the web suggest that the app had more than 1 billion lifetime downloads. The app had over 4.1 ratings with over ‎2,356,185 votes on the Android app distribution platform.

Xiaomi Mi Music Google Play Store

Its Play Store description reads “Get unlimited access to millions of music, curated playlists, and content from your favorite artists. This is the music app for you to listen to online and offline music. What’s more? Hit music for free

Main features of Mi Music:
• Find streaming, hit music, and play songs
• Play any mp3, song, and music online and offline
• My own music does matter: create and listen to your own playlists”

However, its app link is now invisible on Play Store. It shows “We’re sorry, the requested URL was not found on this server.” This indicates that Xiaomi either removed the Mi Music app or it’s removed by Google Play Store.

However, an official clarification from Xiaomi is yet to come on this matter.

Google Play Store 36.0.13 is rolling out for Android smartphones and it comes with brand-new optimizations. Following last month’s I/O event, Google has pushed new changes with the latest Play Store build.

For now, the Google Play Store 36.0.13 is available to limited phones but it will expand very soon. Also, it will be seeded in the background.

Google Play Store 36.0.13

What’s happening:

During the Google I/O 2023, Google announced a collection of Play Store features for developers. These changes will affect developer policies and user experience. There is also new security optimization added for all of the app development.

Last month, Google announced the launch of Google Play Games beta to over 40 European markets alongside the UK and New Zealand. With these additions, the platform is now available in 56 countries, which was limited to 13 as of November 2022.

For your information, Google Play Games currently has over 100 Android games at your service. Games such as Asphalt 9 and more are also the ones that are popular among Android phone users.

Users who want to install Play Games need a PC with at least Windows 10, a solid-state drive, 8GB of RAM, and a four-core CPU running Intel’s UHD 630 graphics (found in 8th- and 9th-gen Core chips) or its AMD equivalent. Google recommends a dedicated “gaming-class” GPU like NVIDIA’s GeForce MX450 and a CPU with eight logical cores (such as through hyperthreading).

Earlier this week, Apple Music Classical reached Google Play Store for Android devices. The app came to iOS and iPadOS in March earlier this year. The app has millions of tracks and supports Hi-Res Lossless audio in up to 24-bit/192 kHz, just as it does on iOS. You just need an existing Apple Music subscription and that’s it. (via 9to5mac)

Furthermore, Google Play Books recently received a new feature for better reading habits. With this, you can get the reader to sound out words, track progress, see definitions, and more. (Read More).

Within the last three days, Huawei launched Huawei P60 Pro and Mate X3 flagship all around the globe and Honor seemingly appeared to be pulling the leg of Huawei for missing Google apps and Play Store.

Today, Honor shared a post on Twitter “HONOR Magic5 Pro comes with Google apps, that are designed for Android, so you can get more done.”. It is clear that Honor is promoting its latest flagship Magic 5 Pro for global consumers.

However, the promo line is kind of interesting, the company could’ve shared interesting features of the phone but it didn’t. Yes, we aren’t jumping to a direct conclusion but this doesn’t presume to be something else.

Although, it is normal among phone makers to pull each other’s leg. Therefore, it seems more like Honor may have been criticizing Huawei for not offering Google apps with the latest Huawei P60 Pro.

Still, Huawei is doing great and it has unveiled a brand new set of devices across different regions – Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia.

This time, Huawei is leaving no stone unturned and promoting the latest smartphones better than ever.

Huawei and Honor:

Huawei launched Honor as a smartphone subsidiary and the company has taken the leading route as the best smartphone seller. Its share of Honor’s sales helped Huawei to dominate both the Chinese and global smartphone markets.

After the US ban, Huawei decided to sell Honor to a Chinese group of tech firms. The company set free the smartphone subsidiary, which allowed Honor to establish partnerships with American companies.

Honor then announced bringing back access to Google apps for new devices. These phones also had 5G chipsets and all of the banned technologies under Huawei’s leadership.

On the flip side, Huawei continues to make new phones with the latest technologies, while facing severe downfall in the supply chain. But now, Huawei has recovered a majority of its suppliers and distributed the imports. This helped the company to develop the best camera smartphone ever, which has already beaten the latest Honor Magic 5 Pro.

Google is rolling out a new Play Store 35.5.14 version for all Android users and it brings new improvements. Over the past month, Google has also made numerous changes in this app distribution platform that are now releasing the latest builds.

According to the details, Google Play Store 35.5.14 is appearing in batches and it will install in the background without acknowledging you about the installation process.

May 2023 update:

Last week, Google released the last batch of April 2023 play system updates. This new session of the Play Update enables some new tweaks for the Google Play Store.

For example, the installation is now more stable when you download any other third-party app or game over the WiFi network. Also, it will bring an option to download the app over the mobile network while waiting for Wi-Fi.

  • New Features to help you discover the Apps & Games you love.
  • Optimizations allow faster and more reliable downloads and installation.
  • Continuous improvements to Play Protect to keep your device safe.
  • Various performance optimizations, bug fixes, and improvements to security, stability, and accessibility.
  • [Auto, PC, Phone] Users can allow apps and games to download over cellular data from the download notification while waiting for Wi-Fi.
  • [Phone] With this update, you will have direct access to My Ad Center.

Deleting the data:

Another change that may soon be coming to the Play Store is users’ intended action in order to delete user data inside a specific app. According to 9to5Google, apps that allow account creation (from within the application), “must also allow users to request for their account to be deleted.” This deletion option must be “readily discoverable” inside the app and outside, like on the web. The latter requirement means a “user can request account and data deletion without having to reinstall an app.”

Play store-like design on Chrome

Also, there’s an improvement made for the Google Chrome developers, which will allow them to add Play Store-like app icons.

Despite a long-standing issue with its changelog, Google keeps on sending new and multiple Play Store versions to Android users including the 34.0.13, which recently began to release.

Google Play Store 34.0.13 is currently in the expansion stage for Android devices and it may take some to reach all of the users.

Purchase approval:

Earlier this week, Google added a new parent control feature to Play Store that will allow parents to add purchase approval for their children.

According to the information, the feature will allow children to send a purchase request for the family manager account to approve it. Similar to app notification and the parent could then choose whether to approve it or not.

The approval covers paid apps and in-app purchases. Once received, the family manager could tap on the notification to process the payment request. The payment could be made through on-screen payment options as well as Google Play gift cards. In addition, you can check all of the histories in the section.

Real users and bots:

There is input that Google is working on a new way for developers to provide important information to users to detect whether it is run by a bot or a human.

Mishaal Rahman said that Google Play will execute this task by releasing a signal that helps to detect between “likely genuine” and likely non-genuine” traffic based on the presence and volume of Google Play Store activity.

We can simply call it an automated AI based approach to detect activity based on the usage data of a regular Play Store user. However, there’s no official information available from Google on this matter.

Changelog:

There was a change that recently appeared on the Play Store web version, such as the disappearance of the changelog of listed apps.

However, the changelogs are back in their place, as if they were never removed.
