HarmonyOS NEXT unlocks a whole new level of security that makes app installation much safer. It not only detects harmful applications but also prohibits them from getting installed on your device. Hence, your data is on the safe side always.

The tech giant says that HarmonyOS NEXT equips a Star Shield Security framework. This new addition ensures the safety of the app ecosystem in the device.

Simply put, the architecture looks after the app installation and relevant operations in the HarmonyOS NEXT devices. It checks if an app is running accurately.

Star Shield Security further enhances the AppGallery in the HarmonyOS NEXT. Huawei says that the new App Store in the latest software contains 200 detection capabilities. These components trace every app present in the application store.

Also, several experts review apps before listing them on the AppGallery. If an application and its codes do not meet HarmonyOS NEXT security standards, the experts restrict it and don’t list it on the AppGallery.

“Codes and applications that do not meet security requirements cannot be put on the AppGallery or installed on devices. Every app is traceable with a real name.” says Huawei.

This addition claims that HarmonyOS NEXT makes the app installations safer than ever before. It keeps an eye on the app while it downloads on a device.

During the installation, if the software detects an illegal operation such as an attack on private data, system, or more, it restricts the app running and stops the installation. Thus, your data remains out of the reach of third-party servers.

HarmonyOS NEXT also blocks 9 types of unnecessary permissions for installed applications:

  • Reading the list of installed apps
  • Accessing text messages
  • Accessing storage files
  • Creating home screen shortcuts
  • Obtaining device information
  • Displaying floating windows
  • Accessing call logs
  • Installing apps within apps
  • Making and managing calls

A tiny privacy indicator on the status bar will constantly remind you when an app is found using a mic, camera, or location. It will also display all the details such as the sensitive permissions of the application in real-time.

System-level file encryption is another beneficial feature that ensures only the device owners or authorized users can access their encrypted files on the phone/tablet. It doesn’t limit sharing and supports Word, Excel, PPT, PDF, and TXT formats.

These HarmonyOS NEXT capabilities ensure that the apps in Huawei devices do not lead to data leaks or unauthorized access to confidential details of users.

Xiaomi is seemingly ready to raise the bar of security with HyperOS 2.0 – thanks to the “Enhanced Protection” feature. The respective tool recently sneaked into the real world and claims to offer the best security from privacy threats and malware.

HyperOS 2.0 Enhanced Protection is the company’s new measure towards protecting its devices from risky apps. Yes! We often download such apps to our devices that appear interesting but are dangerous. They leak data to third-party servers.

Even if we try to remain alert, it’s impossible to recognize which app is safe or a risk to our device. However, Xiaomi is bringing a solution to this issue in the form of an Enhanced Protection feature. It will shield your device from all possible risks.

Under this feature, the Xiaomi App Store will test the app’s security and risk level before installing it on your device. In simple words, only those apps can access your device that is being tested by the company’s official application store.

It will automatically restrict the downloading of any such app that seems a risk to the device’s security. Thus, the feature protects users’ data from bad applications or malware found in the App Store. It also prevents viruses or other issues that install on your phone automatically due to unverified apps or services.

The feature was initially spotted by XiaomiTime. It follows a three-step review for every app before installing it on a user’s device. These processes are:

  • Four automatic detections
  • Professional Review
  • Protection standards regarding privacy and security

When enabled, the feature will test every app before downloading and automatically prohibit any risky or buggy application. Thus, users can install apps without worrying about their device or data security.

The feature will likely debut with the HyperOS 2.0 this month. The tech giant has yet to announce an official release date for unveiling the new software. Though we may get the details on this matter soon.

HarmonyOS 4.2 is full of useful features and one such is the App Security Center. As the term suggests, the respective application hub ensures that your data remains protected from the apps that you have installed or are about to install on the device.

Applications are one of the major segments of the smartphone. A phone holder uses various systems and third-party apps in a single day to meet their daily needs.

But do you know that most of the third-party apps present in the app store can steal your device’s data? That’s true and this scary thought might restrict many of users from installing any new application on your smartphone next time.

Thanks to HarmonyOS 4.2 – it has the App Security Center. This tool in your Huawei phone protects your data and confidential information from prying apps.

How? Let’s find out!

App Security Center is a real-time security management tool. It detects the behavior and data collection process of all such apps that aren’t recognized by Huawei AppGallery.

For instance, when you download and install an application from any other platform than AppGallery like a browser, the app security center prompt will appear on the screen. Users can follow the on-screen steps to move the app into the respective center.

Hereafter, the App Security Center will analyze the app behavior and check if the application performs any malicious or risky tasks that don’t meet the security standards.

If the app is free of such issues, users can continue to use it on their Huawei phones. Or else, the installation will be blocked. Thus, the user’s data remains safe at all costs. The tool keeps your sensitive personal info under wraps so that you can enjoy a safer and more efficient app experience.

How to access HarmonyOS 4.2 App Security Center?

Users can make their way to the Settings app. Tap on the System & Updates section and click on the App Guard option. Turn on the Enhanced Protection for apps’ security inspection.

Germany plans to phase out Chinese 5G equipment from its network core in the next few years. Following these ban headlines, Huawei now reportedly said that there isn’t any specific evidence that proves its tech to be risky for others.

A new report reveals how Huawei responded to an unnecessary ban on its technology in Germany. One of the company’s spokespersons said that the firm has always offered valuable, upgraded, and secure network equipment to its telecom partners.

The speaker added that though many countries are pulling out Huawei from their network, there’s no “specific evidence” for its tech being risky to others.

“Huawei has developed into a continuously innovative, secure, and reliable telecoms equipment supplier in the German market. There is no specific evidence or scenarios that Huawei’s technology has cyber-security risks.” – said the spokesperson.

Beijing embassy also responded to the German ban on Chinese firms. It says that no such proof indicates Chinese companies are dangerous to any country. As per the embassy, these are groundless accusations to stop China from growing.

The embassy further said that it solely depends on Germany on how it manages this issue fairly for its business sake. Although it seems the foreign country won’t change its decision. It is running slow with the “rip and replace” plan but has ordered its telecom operators to remove the main Chinese parts from the network by 2026.

Berlin’s Interior Minister – Nancy Faeser pointed out the only reason to ban Chinese equipment is security. The aim is to shield the citizens’ communication, firms, and the state from security risks. This will eventually make Germany self-dependent.

5G network plays an important role in developing the economic infrastructure of a country. It covers major sections like health, energy, as well as transport, which ultimately contribute to the growth of a nation. Hence, both Chinese and foreign markets are making efforts to expand and secure their network technology.

Android 15 is likely to pack several user features for your phone’s security and one of them seems to be an upgraded ‘Lockdown mode’. While the capability has been in Android for a long time, Google is making it more useful for its consumers.

Lockdown mode mainly works as a protection for your device against a few websites and apps, restricting their limitations for notifications. It also protects your private data from others when they are using your smartphone or other device.

Google is now making this Lockdown mode more reliable with Android 15. The inputs reveal that the feature will safeguard your phone against “juicy jacking”.

Juicy Jacking is a cyber attack that pulls out your data or secretly installs malware on your device using a USB cable. While you may think it’s just a normal charging cable, the attacker could use it as a weapon to steal your confidential details.

It mostly happens when the device doesn’t disable ‘USB data signaling’ which initiates data transfer over USB. However, Android 15 has got your back with the Lockdown feature. It’s an in-built capability that will shield your phone against these operations.

All you have to do is, long-press the power button to open the power menu and select the “Lockdown” mode. Doing so will immediately turn off the USB data access. Note that this feature only plays wonders if your device has the ‘USB hardware abstraction layer’.

Google introduced Lockdown mode with Android 9. But till Android 12 and other versions, the feature only worked to hide your notifications and authentication processes. But with Android 15, the company is giving it a more effective makeover.

On the occasion of International Data Privacy Day, Huawei Consumer Business CEO – Yu Chengdong cited that the company is well-committed to user privacy protection aspects. It further prioritizes users’ security and ensures no compromise to it.

Yu Chengdong says that Huawei keeps user privacy protection at the top-most place while developing its products. To enhance this concept, the company continues to adopt innovative facilities and techs that can shield users’ privacy and security.

We are well aware of the fact that U.S. authorities always addressed Huawei as a subject of a ‘privacy threat’. Yet, the Chinese tech giant never imposed any such components on its devices that harm user security and data protection in any manner.

On the flip side, Huawei chooses and collaborates with selective partners that can provide benefits to the welfare of consumers, without affecting their data privacy or security aspects.

Huawei user privacy protection

Moving on, Yu Chengdong listed a few effective privacy features of the HarmonyOS operating system. The list begins with the useful smart cockpit privacy mode which perfectly hides confidential data like driver’s details, navigation records, call records, and other car information.

Besides, it enables the use of separate accounts for each passenger so that your inputs remain in a safe place without coming into contact with others.

Some other features include privacy risk management which controls the risky applications so that they may not access your data. HarmonyOS also uses AI capabilities that can shield your information from a picture or media content before sharing it.

Ahead, the application permission usage brings you all the details of your device so that you can learn about apps running, real-time records, and other significant inputs of your device.

HarmonyOS NEXT

In the latest edition, the HarmonyOS NEXT Galaxy version is ready to land among the general public. No doubt, the company will efficiently maintain privacy features and functionalities with the HarmonyOS NEXT.

Huawei is sending a new EMUI version 12.0.0.356 for the Huawei P40 Pro smartphone, as its users have been waiting for a major upgrade over EMUI 13.

This new firmware addresses and installs new security issues in the smartphone with the release of November 2023 EMUI security patches. Therefore, all of the Huawei P40 Pro users should get this firmware as soon as it arrives.

For users, that are wondering about the installation, make sure to turn toward the Settings and move in the software update sections at the very bottom of the menu.

The company may perform this rollout in batches, in that case, we suggest you also check for the new firmware via My Huawei.

Aside from the security patches, the EMUI 12.0.0.356 update doesn’t mention any other features or system optimizations for the Huawei P40 Pro.

However, the EMUI 13 is still a big deal for the Huawei P40 Pro model because its Chinese counterparts are now capable of running HarmonyOS 4, which could be equivalent to the EMUI 14.

For the time being, Huawei has not confirmed any details or a major software release for this P-series smartphone but it would be better if the company could surprise the users with another feature-filled OTA update.

China Telecom has unveiled a new custom version of Huawei Mate 60 Pro with Quantum security, a pinnacle in mobile communication features.

With this new product, China Telecom Quantum Group showcased the new product in its segment of “Quantum Security” for the first time at the Digital Technology Ecosystem Conference 2023 in Guangzhou, China.

The new Huawei Mate 60 Pro with quantum security has integrated quantum information technology using the VoLTE network. It has built-in custom chipsets, a new secret algorithm, and a quantum security-powered SIM Card. These three combine a triple sided user protection.

Huawei Mate 60 Pro Quantum Security version by China Telecom

Benefits:

Quantum security is based on the use of quantum key distribution (QKD), which enables two parties to share a secret key that can be used to encrypt and decrypt messages.

Aside from sending encrypted messages, China Telecom’s version of the quantum security system allows users to make encrypted calls through its native application on mobile devices. Sometimes, the encryption goes beyond communication and could also protect users’ online activity.

China Telecom said that the Huawei Mate 60 Pro with quantum security has self-developed technologies, which provide end-to-end encryption and decryption for calls and messages. On the other hand, it prevents call monitoring during the network transmission.

How it works?

Based on the QKD method, a new key will be generated each time the user prompts a call for maximum user privacy.

In action, when a user decides to make a quantum secret communication, the feature will first authenticate the user. Then, the system will prompt the user interface to conduct such encrypted conversation. It may switch to mobile network mode automatically.

China Telecom:

The network service provider has been working on such technology for a long time. In 2021, China Telecom announced its first carrier-grade quantum security. In the following year, it brought the second generation of carrier quantum security.

With its full encrypted network, China Telecom is now introducing this technology built into premium smartphones. For now, China Telecom has not shared the availability of this custom Huawei Mate 60 Pro smartphone.
