Huawei may introduce a new MatePad 11.5 2024 tablet by October 30 for its consumers. The company unveiled many tablets in the past few months. It seems the OEM will add a few more products to the MatePad gallery by the end of this year.

Weibo tipster @UncleKanshan says that Huawei will directly launch a new MatePad 11.5 2024 tablet on October 30. The term directly hints that there won’t be any release event, unlike other products. The device will directly be on the sale shelf.

The company unveiled the MatePad 11.5-inch S tablet in May this year. Now it is seemingly planning to bring an upgraded 11.5-inch tablet with useful capabilities.

Apart from UncleKanshan, another tipster shared some key specs and main changes to the new tablet. The leak hints that the MatePad 11.5 2024 will have the same design as its predecessor. But Huawei will upgrade its chip and other internal specs.

For instance, the company may use the Kirin 8000 processor for the alleged tablet. The sound feature powered by Huawei Histen could be upgraded from level 8 to 9 (Histen 9). Next, a 40W charger with 30W charging power may accompany the tablet.

Speaking of the price, it will likely be similar to the previous-gen model. As per the tipster’s leak, there won’t be any 4G LTE full network variant this time.

Huawei is offering unlimited cloud storage with HarmonyOS NEXT public beta program. It’s a simple functionality that will help users store their essential data and restore it in case they lose any information during the software upgrade process.

Inputs reveal that the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta program is giving free unlimited cloud storage for 60 days. This will ensure that users have sufficient space to back up their data and other important details before the beta update installation.

After registering for the public beta, a page will appear recommending to back up important data. Users can opt for the new cloud space capability that will temporarily store their data for 60 days (30 main days + 30 extra days). It reads:

“During the HarmonyOS NEXT upgrade period (before December 31, 2024), the backup records will be saved for an additional 30 days on top of the original 30 days, for a total of 60 days.”

A major benefit of this cloud space is – it offer unlimited storage that can easily store more data. Basic details such as contacts, memos, call logs, and more do not occupy cloud space. Users can also customize the backup items to store only important data and use the cloud storage space more efficiently.

While using this feature, users will see two options on the page. The first one will save data for 60 days (temporarily) without occupying the device’s storage space.

The second one will backup and store the data in your device’s space. Here, the data will be stored permanently and users can retrieve it even after months.

It’s not the first time when Huawei is offering such a service to its users. Last year in July, the company launched a similar facility free of charge. However the drawback was, that users could only store data for 24 hours.

With HarmonyOS NEXT, the company has opened a special cloud storage space service for beta users. But we suggest restoring your data before December 31, 2024, as it is a temporary service and will end soon.

Huawei vs MediaTek patent dispute may turn into an official war by October 25. A new input reveals that both tech giants will step in the patent lawsuit after the Chinese Golden Week (Chinese holidays: October 1 to 7) and a few major launch events.

Back in July, Huawei and MediaTek locked horns over a patent dispute. As per the details, the fight revolves around cellular network technologies like 4G/5G/LTE.

Both Huawei and MediaTek filed a lawsuit on patent infringement against each other and now they may officially fight in the court by October 25. The former lodged the case in a Chinese court while the latter firm filed it in the high court of the UK.

Other details of this patent infringement lawsuit are unclear at the moment. Moreover, the exact date of the patent dispute trial in the court is also not confirmed. Though it will likely happen after the Chinese Fest holidays, but not before October 25.

Patent Dispute: What’s the matter?

The story began when Huawei filed a lawsuit against MediaTek over patent violations. Most of these patents are related to cellular network techs. As per a financial news reporter, the fight started due to an unsettled patent licensing agreement.

Huawei and MediaTek tried to sign a deal for patent licensing. Under this deal, the latter has to pay a fee to the former company for using its patent or selling its patented invention. The agreement was hanging in the middle for 2-3 years.

MediaTek didn’t agree on this deal as it felt that Huawei had a high patent fee structure. The Chinese phone maker, on the other hand, reportedly tried to shift the patent licensing from the device level to the component level.

Doing so will ultimately relieve the phone makers from the patent fees and they can continue to focus on making innovative products. How things will proceed ahead will become clear in the upcoming days. Stay tuned.

A recent report claimed that ByteDance has ordered over 100000 Huawei AI Ascend 910B chips this year. The firm has opted for a new AI chip alternative to reduce its dependency on Nvidia as much as possible, supporting the native region’s progress.

ByteDance is a Chinese IT company and the developer of the famous video-sharing platforms: TikTok and Douyin. It also makes large language models like Doubao.

Now a new input says that ByteDance is planning to develop another AI LLM model using Huawei Ascend 910B chips. The news is yet to be confirmed by the company. However, the current ordered chips figure shows that the IT firm may choose Huawei over Nvidia.

Yes, ByteDance has already purchased more than 100000 Huawei Ascend 910B AI chips this year. Due to tight supply and production challenges, the IT company has received 30% of the order as of July 2024. Huawei may soon deliver the left-out order.

Further details state that ByteDance has opted for the Huawei AI chips as an alternative to the Nvidia H20 chips. Following the U.S. restrictions, Nvidia has to serve Chinese firms with low-efficient chips that are good enough to perform but aren’t very reliable. As a result, the Chinese companies turned towards native suppliers.

Companies like ByteDance hope that Huawei and its AI techs are perfect. Even though the Ascend 910B chips aren’t as advanced as Nvidia’s chips. But their performance level and efficiency are far better than the A100 processors (20% more efficient).

On the other hand, using Ascend AI chips will ultimately reduce China’s dependency on foreign chipmakers like Nvidia. Huawei is also making efforts to enhance its chip production and become more efficient in the semiconductor industry.

ByteDance – the parent of TikTok app is reportedly planning to use Huawei chips for its next AI model. The Chinese company will adopt the Ascend 910B over Nvidia’s processors following the strict trade export controls by the U.S. authorities.

U.S. restrictions have turned many Chinese firms to Huawei in the search for AI chipsets. And ByteDance is no exception to this theory. A new report states that ByteDance plans to develop and train its large language AI model with Huawei chips.

In this AI model-making, the Ascend 910B chips are in consideration. The respective processors can outperform Nvidia’s A100 and claim to offer better GPU performance. It provides 20% more efficient computing power than Nvidia’s chipsets.

The report further notes that ByteDance’s new model will likely be less powerful in computing parameters and capability than its Doubao. Yet it would be efficient.

AI training models need huge amounts of data and a powerful AI chip that can easily manage it. Even though Nvidia premium GPUs are the perfect choice for AI models, the U.S. sanctions forced China to look for other alternatives over Nvidia Chinese chip variants.

ByteDance hasn’t confirmed the news yet. Although three of the persons related to this matter said that the app developer could take this big step to pace ahead in the AI race. Another person said that it’s still unclear if Huawei chips will be used.

Meanwhile, a TikTok spokesperson – Michael Hughes responded on this matter, saying: “The entire premise here is wrong. No new model is being developed.”

Ascend 910B is familiar for its efficiency. Hence, if ByteDance ever prefers making an AI model then it might opt for Huawei’s chips. The company has already ordered 100000 Ascend 910B chips starting this year. But till now, it July received 30000.

This tight supply of Ascend 910B ultimately made ByteDance halt the development of its new AI model. The company has been one of the biggest customers of Huawei’s AI chips. On the other hand, it’s the top user of Nvidia H20 AI processors.

The overall situation regarding the ByteDance partnership with Huawei over a new AI model is quite unclear. However, the matter may soon come into clear light with more details. ByteDance AI model running on Ascend 910B will surely help Huawei reach new heights in the AI chip market.

Huawei is ready to launch HarmonyOS NEXT operating system for smartphones and its cloud storage won’t be an issue for users upgrading from the existing HarmonyOS version.

Tipster FixedFocus has revealed that the company’s native operating system will bring extended cloud storage for those upgrading from HarmonyOS 4.2.

The tipster confirmed that the storage will help people store data from one device as a backup and restore if the device loses the data after the upgrade process is completed.

Furthermore, this storage could be temporary but there’s no certain information on whether it will be free or come under a special offer.

This bells some rings and reminds us of a free storage service launched in July 2023. Under this model, Huawei smartphone users were allowed to store their data in cloud storage and format the device.

(Source – FixedFoxu/Weibo)

The service was free of charge but the data could only be stored temporarily such as for 24 hours. Within that time, the user was reminded to restore the data or buy more storage to keep it on the cloud.

HarmonyOS NEXT is a native operating system designed to provide a new user experience and improved performance compared to the existing HarmonyOS. The version also supports only native mobile apps.

Since it’s a whole new upgrade, the company may want to ramp up its upgrades at the beginning. Therefore, offering free temporary cloud storage will speed up the upgrades from older devices without worrying about the cloud storage price or data.

Huawei will open HarmonyOS NEXT public beta on October 8. This will enable users of selected models to test the latest features with unlimited testing slots.

The first batch of devices includes Huawei Mate X5 foldable, Mate 60 Series, and MatePad Pro’s latest tablet. Over the past two years, Huawei has collaborated with the Chinese software industry to develop thousands of native HarmonyOS applications.

Thickness has become a hot topic among foldable analysts and consumers these days. A thin folding phone not only attracts customers but also hints about its technical strength. Now it’s time to compare the thickness between Huawei Mate XT, Mate X5, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Honor Magic V3.

So without any further ados, let’s jump into the comparison!

Note that this comparison mentions the thickness of the device in both folded and unfolded states. Also, we’ll place the unfolded thickness first for every device.

Huawei Mate XT

The world’s first triple-foldable phone debuted on September 10. It uses a dual-hinge system for a smooth folding mechanism. The body structure is quite thin and claims to be durable against accidental slips and other external damage.

Mate XT has a thickness of 12.8mm when folded and 3.6-4.8mm when in unfolded state. The overall dimensions are 156.7 x 219.0 x 4.8mm in the unfolded state and 156.7 x 73.5 x 12.8mm in the folded state.

Huawei Mate X5

Another impressive foldable from the Huawei brand – Mate X5 also bears a thin architecture. The company introduced the device last year on the 16th of September with HarmonyOS 4.0. It was the first foldable with two-way satellite communication.

The Mate X5 bears a thickness of 11.08 mm in folded state and 5.3mm in unfolded state. The complete dimensions of this book-type foldable are 156.9 x 141.5 x 5.3mm (unfolded) and 156.9 x 72.4 x 11.08mm (folded).
