HarmonyOS NEXT unlocks a whole new level of security that makes app installation much safer. It not only detects harmful applications but also prohibits them from getting installed on your device. Hence, your data is on the safe side always.

The tech giant says that HarmonyOS NEXT equips a Star Shield Security framework. This new addition ensures the safety of the app ecosystem in the device.

Simply put, the architecture looks after the app installation and relevant operations in the HarmonyOS NEXT devices. It checks if an app is running accurately.

Star Shield Security further enhances the AppGallery in the HarmonyOS NEXT. Huawei says that the new App Store in the latest software contains 200 detection capabilities. These components trace every app present in the application store.

Also, several experts review apps before listing them on the AppGallery. If an application and its codes do not meet HarmonyOS NEXT security standards, the experts restrict it and don’t list it on the AppGallery.

“Codes and applications that do not meet security requirements cannot be put on the AppGallery or installed on devices. Every app is traceable with a real name.” says Huawei.

This addition claims that HarmonyOS NEXT makes the app installations safer than ever before. It keeps an eye on the app while it downloads on a device.

During the installation, if the software detects an illegal operation such as an attack on private data, system, or more, it restricts the app running and stops the installation. Thus, your data remains out of the reach of third-party servers.

HarmonyOS NEXT also blocks 9 types of unnecessary permissions for installed applications:

  • Reading the list of installed apps
  • Accessing text messages
  • Accessing storage files
  • Creating home screen shortcuts
  • Obtaining device information
  • Displaying floating windows
  • Accessing call logs
  • Installing apps within apps
  • Making and managing calls

A tiny privacy indicator on the status bar will constantly remind you when an app is found using a mic, camera, or location. It will also display all the details such as the sensitive permissions of the application in real-time.

System-level file encryption is another beneficial feature that ensures only the device owners or authorized users can access their encrypted files on the phone/tablet. It doesn’t limit sharing and supports Word, Excel, PPT, PDF, and TXT formats.

These HarmonyOS NEXT capabilities ensure that the apps in Huawei devices do not lead to data leaks or unauthorized access to confidential details of users.

Huawei has baked HarmonyOS 4.2 with useful tweaks, improved security, and other interesting features. But there is an AI tool that can help you, especially when you are struggling with hearing disability. Today we’re up with HarmonyOS 4.2 AI Subtitles.

AI subtitles would be a familiar feature to Huawei device users. The phone maker introduced this capability with HarmonyOS 2.0 and EMUI 11. But following the U.S. restriction, the company phased out this feature from its global software system.

On the flip side, Huawei kept upgrading the feature for its Chinese phones. HarmonyOS 4.2 is the latest and major software version that brings an enhanced form of AI Subtitles for its users. Let’s learn more about this feature and its significance.

HarmonyOS 4.2: AI Subtitles

From the name, AI subtitles generate real-time transcription of audio and video clips. It converts the music or video into texts at times when you are unable to play sound. The feature can easily translate multiple foreign languages into Chinese subtitles.

Google is seemingly planning a mini ‘tablet-like’ taskbar tool for regular smartphones with Android 15. The company aims to expand the reach of an application dock from large-screen devices to standard handsets for an efficient user experience.

Taskbar made its debut on tablets with Android 12L. The US tech giant wanted to give a desktop-like feel to large screen devices and foldable. It seems Google will bring this useful function to smartphones as well with the stable Android 15 upgrade.

Android analyst – Mishaal Rahman spotted the new taskbar capability for regular smartphones in the Android 15 beta 4. The build contains codes for a mini taskbar.

Being a compact taskbar, it may only support four apps at a time with a quick shortcut to the application drawer. One can enable the taskbar on their phone with a simple swipe-up gesture from the bottom of the screen. Note that it’s still a hidden feature.

The shared video shows the taskbar at the bottom screen over open apps. Users can easily switch between applications on the bar without visiting the home screen. You can also choose to auto-hide the feature or keep it visible all the time.

Another good point is that the taskbar effectively supports split-screen and floating window functions. However, smartphone makers may alter this capability depending on their OS compatibility and smartphone technology.

Google has not confirmed this feature yet. Although a tiny taskbar for smartphones would be a great creation to swipe between frequently used apps without opening the app drawer or looking at the home screen again and again.

After a long wait, the Standard Huawei Pura 70 is finally receiving the AI Image Expand feature update. Alongside the new picture editing tool, the company has also improved the system stability and security aspects of the flagship smartphone.

Huawei promised to bring the AI Image Expansion offering for standard Pura 70 models this month. Now the company has begun releasing the feature to limited users. But it won’t take much time to roll out the firmware on a broader spectrum.

The Standard Huawei Pura 70 is getting the AI Image Expand feature via HarmonyOS 4.2.0.176 version. Users need to ensure sufficient space as the firmware package weighs 1.10GB. We also suggest using a stable Wi-Fi connection for installation.

Pura 70 users will be able to access the AI Image Expand feature with the latest software version. The feature smartly detects the object in an image and enlarges it without degrading the visuals or picture quality. Thus, you get large and clearer shots.

AI Image Expansion:

AI Image Expand tool runs on AI composition and image generation tech algorithms. It recognizes the details and image content and then suggests expansion accordingly. The missing parts in the picture are filled to give a wider field of view to users.

To access the feature, select an image from the Gallery app. Now tap the Edit icon and click on the AI Image Retouch section. Tap the “Expand Image” feature.

Other than the editing tool, users will get the July 2024 security patch as well as optimizations for the sound experience in certain conditions. The company has also added the ‘smart multiple windows’ tool for some apps. They will eventually support horizontally floating windows on the home screen when required.

HarmonyOS 4.2.0.176 is a major update for the standard Pura 70 models but the company is also rolling out this version to other variants. If not received yet, you can check the update section of your device and install the latest firmware manually.

A few users might face network abnormality issues with the new build. It could be due to the self-optimization of the device system. Users can try restarting their phones or wait for a few days as it may get normal. If it doesn’t contact Huawei Consumer Service.

Huawei has renovated EMUI 14.2 in such a way that it eases daily tasks and makes smartphone operations fun! Today we’ll talk about how users can make multitasking simpler and more innovative with the EMUI 14.2 Split-Screen Combo feature.

Split-screen refers to dividing the phone’s screen into two parts. Doing so manages two operations at the same time. Thanks to EMUI 14.2, operating several tasks is now a matter of seconds. Just a few swipes and your multitasking platform is ready.

EMUI 13 introduced a Multi-Window feature last year. This capability allows users to open applications in split screens or a floating window as per their preference.

Users can even switch between split-screen and floating window, drag and drop between apps with multi-window, or remove an application. But EMUI 14.2 has made this section more useful for Huawei users with a “Split-Screen Combo” mode.

From the name, the Split-Screen Combo enables users to save the built split-screen combinations. So next time when you want to work on the same two apps, you don’t have to create the split-screen or floating window section again.

Users can easily access this combination from the home screen. But before that, Huawei device owners must know how to save the split-screen combination.

EMUI 14.2 Split-Screen combo

How to make a Split-Screen Combo?

Create a split screen on the device. Open an app in full view, swipe in from left/right, and hold. A Multi-Window Dock will appear on the side. Touch and hold the app you want to use and drag it out of the dock to form a split screen mode.

EMUI 14.2 Split-Screen combo

In between the split-screen, you may see a three-dot icon. Tap on it to access controls like “Save Combo” and “Flip top/bottom”. Tapping on the first option will save the split-screen combination on the home screen for easy access.

How to find it? Users may see a combination icon on the home screen. Tap on that icon to resume your work whenever required. To exit this mode, drag the three-dot icon (between the two split-screen windows) to the edge of the screen.

Thus, users can make multitasking fun and more creative within a few clicks. However, to run this feature on your Huawei phone, you must have the EMUI 14.2 software version.
