Huawei Mate 70 series still has time to go official and Honor is already seeing this lineup as the “strongest competitor”. One of the executives recently mentioned that Huawei’s upcoming flagship product would be the toughest rival in the market.

Zhao Ming – the CEO of Honor attended an exclusive interview after the Magic 7 series launch event. During the interrogation, a reporter asked if the company sees any biggest competitor in the fierce flagship smartphone competition. “Is it Mate 70?”

Ming replied that Huawei Mate 70 feels like the strongest rival at present. The executive said he doesn’t doubt the respective phone’s potential to rule the market.

He added that Honor is still growing and it wouldn’t be right to talk about rivals this early. The company only aims to develop better devices and the rest of the decision is in consumers’ hands.

“Huawei Mate 70 is the strongest competitor of all brands, there is no doubt about that. …we’re still growing and it is too early to talk about competitors. We must do our best and let consumers recognize our products.” – Zhao Ming.

The Honor CEO implied that the Huawei Mate 70 could be the toughest competitor in the market. The flagship series will enter the real world by next month.

Zhao mentioned that Honor has been working hard for the past few years to prove itself. Yet, it still sees certain doubts on R&D capabilities and the ability to innovate. The question “Can we develop better after being separated from Huawei” persists.

The CEO meant that Honor had to take major steps and implement new changes in terms of innovation. The company has introduced many useful solutions for its devices. For instance, the Qinghai Lake battery, Eagle Eye camera, and more.

“We relied on products and hard work. In this process, I think it is more important for Honor to be the best version of itself.” – said Zhao Ming.

Mate 70 Series

Huawei will launch four models with the Mate 70 series: Standard, Pro, Pro+, and RS Ultimate Design. The lineup will bring major upgrades and could be the first to equip a new Kirin 5nm chip as well as HarmonyOS NEXT software system.

Other changes will be visible as enhanced photography experience, faster touch responses, improved video recording, as well as an upgraded fingerprint unlock solution.

Honor CEO – Zhao Ming recently revealed that his company faced a lot of pressure and challenges after separating from Huawei. The executive sees Huawei as a strong brand power in the Chinese market and aims to compete with it in a fair means.

Zhao Ming talked about Honor and Huawei in a livestream interview. The official said that Honor has cut off its relationship with Huawei in a far better way than any other company. But this separation initially brought many challenges.

The CEO mentioned that his original family (Huawei + Honor) has been successful. Although after being separated from the parent firm, Honor felt immense pressure.

It had to begin everything from scratch. The biggest challenge for Honor executives was to manage those operations that they were completely unaware of.

Why separated?

After the U.S. banned Huawei in 2019, the company sold its subsidiary firm Honor to Shenzhen Zhixin New Information Technology in November 2020. The aim was to prevent Honor from the drawbacks of the ban and enable it to operate freely.

The beginning was quite tough for Honor. The company was under pressure to meet consumers’ expectations with better products. Yet it managed the difficult times and came out with flying colors.

Zhao Ming further spoke on comparisons of Honor with Huawei and Apple. According to him, Honor feels pressure while competing with tech giants. Yet, the company remains calm and continues to explore new ways that can benefit its consumers.

“When communicating with backbones and supervisors, everyone said that we are leading, but we always feel a lot of pressure. We have three big mountains. The objects we compare with are not Apple today, but Huawei tomorrow.”

Zhao Ming states that he tries to see positivity in every aspect. The official once said that despite pressure and challenges, Honor made a separate identity from Huawei. The company is constantly achieving success and aims to offer more improved and innovative products in the future.

Honor devices to equip Kirin chips in the future is still a big question and CEO Zhao Ming has finally responded on this matter. The executive said that the company doesn’t have any such plans for now and is focusing on other significant matters.

Zhao Ming took part in a recent livestream interview. He talked about many subjects like AI, large models, business sectors, the Magic 7 series, new features, and more.

During the interrogation, several netizens asked the CEO if Honor would use Kirin chips for its devices anytime. In response, Zhao Ming said that he’s pretty much aware that users hope for such an opportunity. They are eagerly waiting to see the Kirin chip powering Honor smartphones with a new performance boost.

Although it’s unlikely to happen in the short term. Honor has good cooperation with Qualcomm and prefers Snapdragon processors for its flagship models.

“The possibility of using Kirin chips in the short term is not very high and I know everyone also hopes for such an opportunity.” – said Zhao Ming.

The 360 Group Chairman – Zhou Hongyi questioned if Honor isn’t considering Kirin chips due to its low production capacity and limited supply. Zhao answered that he had no idea about the production volume or any other matter related to it.

It’s not the first time that Honor denied using Kirin chips for its devices. The company’s CMO Jiang Hairong also refuted such rumors saying it’s complete nonsense.

Honor does have the values and core characteristics of Huawei. Although it believes that it can no longer become Huawei and would like to remain a separate company. Zhao also clarified in previous interviews that Honor can defeat its all rivals even if it begins things from scratch.

The CEO stated that the new-gen Honor Magic 7 series will run on Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. We can expect dynamic performance boost with the Magic 7 series.

Honor CEO – Zhao Ming has revealed the front design of the Magic 7 smartphone before its launch. The executive also shared some key features of the device. He claims that new additions to the device will ultimately boost the user experience.

Zhao Ming and the Chairman of 360 Group, Zhou Hongyi recently attended a live broadcast event. During the interview, the CEO showcased the Honor Magic 7, mainly its front design. He also operated the device to show its major features.

Front Design

Magic 7 phone shows curvy corners on the front side. It has thinner bezels around the screen and exhibits a clean look. The sides of the handset reflect a slight curve all around. Perhaps, the new phone may continue to feature the quad-curved outlook.

Another segment is the pill-shaped design. Honor Magic 7 will also bring the same pill cutout as its predecessors. The design may adopt a selfie lens and a 3D face recognition system.

Back Design

The executive completely covered the back design with a rugged phone case to hide the camera module. Although two lens openings (in a diagonal arrangement) and an LED Flash are visible through the cover. Another strip opening hints at laser focus.

Since the back design is covered with the case, the accurate details are unknown. But the OEM may reveal the entire design with new teasers in the upcoming days.

Apart from the phone, the CEO also described how its smart voice assistant has become even smarter. It can perform various tasks with just a single statement.

Zhao demonstrated the order takeout feature on the Magic 7 smartphone. He said “Order three cups of American coffee” and the device immediately searched for the item and completed the order within minutes. Notably, one has to submit the order and complete the payment without worrying about any other task.

More such features are on the way and we may witness them with the official unveiling of the Honor Magic 6 series on October 30.

Honor CEO Zhao Ming answered a question from the media about Huawei tri-fold smartphone. The executive stated how he sees the new creation in the market. He also revealed when the company will push its own triple foldable in the competition.

Zhao Ming had a small media interaction after the Magic V3 global debut. During the interview, the media asked what the company thinks about Huawei’s tri-foldable.

The CEO responded that he wants to see if Huawei’s tri-fold will be a show of strength or a real demand in the market. It seems Honor is waiting for consumers’ reaction to the world’s first triple-foldable before making any moves toward this trend.

When asked if Honor sees Huawei tri-fold phone as a competitor, the CEO replied that the triple-folding screen technology doesn’t appear an issue for the company.

“The three-fold technology reserves are not a problem for Honor. For us, the three-fold is not a technical issue, but a matter of business choice.” – said Zhao Ming.

Honor is one of the top-end foldable makers worldwide. The company has recently surprised its users with the thinnest book-type folding phone – the Magic V3. The device has left Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Pixel 9 Pro Fold behind in design and capabilities.

Regarding the new device, Honor’s tri-fold is already in the works. As per the details, the company’s triple-folding handset is in development. But its launch will entirely depend on the market response for the world’s first triple foldable smartphone.

Apart from the tri-fold, Honor has also issued patents for scrollable phones and many other interesting technologies. Following the consumer feedback on the Huawei Mate XT, the company may launch its first triple foldable handset in the market.

Huawei Mate XT:

The Chinese OEM has revealed a slight glimpse of the first-ever tri-fold via a video teaser. With a large, slim, and lightweight design, the Mate XT phone will likely be a huge success for Huawei. Although the pricing still seems to be an obstacle in this matter.

During the Honor 200 series launch conference, the company’s CEO Zhao Ming said that the upcoming foldable phones from the brand will be more unique and creative, compared to the latest creations in the market. Let’s check the matter in detail.

The story began when an interviewer asked Zhao about how the company sees the small vertical foldable position in the market while many OEMs are ready to leave!

In response, Honor CEO mentioned that the new small vertical foldable phones in the market lack many major aspects. A major reason why the tech giants are giving up the development of such devices is the deficiency of creativity and uniqueness.

Zhao further cites that many phone makers didn’t implement such tools and features that consumers demand in a foldable handset. Excluding those benefits and features makes the device lose its special value, lagging in the sales market race.

Although when it comes to Honor, the company is independent and fully different from its rivals. Hinting towards Honor’s first-ever clamshell, Zhao says that the firm is looking for better solutions to make its devices more innovative than others.

“I think that many times, it is a lack of imagination and value exploration is not enough. Honor is different from others in many fields. This time, we are also thinking and conceiving our solutions for small folding screens along this logic” – says Zhao Ming.

Honor Magic Flip

A new device that is currently in development is the alleged Magic Flip model. It is said to bring a powerful battery which will eliminate the usual battery life problem in folding handsets. Leaks also say that the firm has used a more durable hinge technology for its first flip-flop device.

Honor Magic Flip is likely to bring the largest cover screen for a better display of images. We may find some more interesting features that will make Honor small vertical foldable more unique and creative than others!

Honor CEO – Zhao Ming recently appeared in an interview where he said that the company inherits some of the best parts of Huawei. These useful capabilities will help the company to make innovative products and remain at the top of the market.

Zhao says that the Honor team was born out of Huawei. Despite the firm no longer with its major branch, it still has Huawei’s magic in its veins and thought process.

The company also acquired Huawei’s culture, values, R&D capabilities, and innovation genes. When combined, these attributes help Honor to step ahead with better creativity and efficiency to make ‘better than before’ products for its customers.

Ming further recalled that Honor parted ways with Huawei in 2020 due to the U.S. sanctions. This action made its market share drop by 3%, the lowest point.

“When Honor became independent, we faced some challenges. But the Honor team was born out of Huawei, and we have inherited the best parts of Huawei, namely its culture, values, and R&D and innovation genes” – said Ming.

In terms of challenges, the initial problem was to make devices with controlled-price and innovative methods. The second was to regain its shares and stand as a separate firm in the market. Honor CEO says that without any hesitation, the tech maker chose the path of innovation and breakthrough.

It is worth mentioning that Honor has climbed the top spot in the first quarter of this year with impressive shipment and market share. Magic 6 series has a large amount of credit for this success. Now the company plans to introduce its first flip-flop foldable in the market by May 2024.

During the Spring New Product launch conference, Honor CEO – Zhao Ming said that Huawei has the strongest brand power in China which ultimately makes it a role model for Honor. Perhaps, the company has a lot to learn from its parent firm.

Zhao cited that Huawei has come a long way and achieved good score in developing itself. Despite various challenges and external problems, Huawei made the strongest brand power in China which inspires most of the native companies alongside Honor.

On the other hand, the CEO said that Honor’s experience stores need more strength. Even though many authorized partners contributed to these stores, we have to focus on other details that can make them more beneficial for consumers – just like Huawei.

Since Huawei is constantly inaugurating new stores in the home ground, it helps the company to draw the attention of customers. Moreover, it is a seamless way to offer product-based services to more users without making them hustle around.

Additionally, Ming has mentioned that the first-gen Honor Magic is the originator of all AI mobile phones – thanks to certain Huawei elements like the Kirin 950 processor. The device also supports a Magic Live smart engine system for amazing features.

While being interviewed for the Magic 6 Pro smartphone last month, the CEO said that regardless of Huawei’s core values still running in Honor’s veins, it won’t be possible for it to become Huawei again. Also, now the MagicOS developer aims to create its own identity in the smartphone industry.

Zhao said:

“Although we have left the familiar Kirin chip including the HarmonyOS operating system and even if we start from scratch, we can still surpass everyone.”

Honor CEO, Zhao Ming has once again targeted Apple for the competition, he said in order to break Apple’s dominance in the market, all competitors need to overcome the mentality that iPhone is powerful.

Ming gave the latest remark at a recent conversation with the media, he said Honor has started the trend. Breaking Apple’s dominance requires determination and transformation.

The outcome of this competition will be very beneficial for the smartphone industry and more innovation will come forward, says Honor CEO.

He gave an example of Nokia vs Apple. 20 years ago, when founder Steve Jobs launched iPhone, no one knew that it could surpass Nokia. The Finnish giant was once known for its single-handed rule over the smartphone market. However, Apple successfully passed this challenge and placed itself on top of the industry.

However, Ming also criticized that a presuppose could become a hurdle and make the possible thing look impossible without even trying. Honor chief said smartphone makers can’t stay out of the competition because iPhone is so powerful, and this will make everyone lose.

Honor CEO IPhone

Apple Foldable Phone?

Zhao Ming also responded to a question about Apple’s foldable phone. He reacted that Honor is not worried about foldable iPhones.

“It can be said that the iPhone is a folding screen, which is very good. For the industry, another big player has joined in. In fact, we are still alive when the iPhone is a bar machine, and we are constantly moving forward. In fact, in the industry, You can’t worry and fear that any opponent will do the same thing. Worrying is just a psychological comfort for yourself in a certain situation because what you worry about will often become a reality.” He emphasized.

The Honor Chief concluded that his company is continuously making innovations in order to achieve higher ground among consumers.

Honor CEO, Zhao Ming said that Honor has achieved Dynamic Island way before the iPhone 14 series. This is a claim, that we also discussed after the launch of the current-gen iPhone lineup.

The latest comment from the Honor chief came during a conversation with the Chinese media. Zhao addressed that Apple is facing a severe innovation bottleneck and it continues to happen each year. He then moved on to the topic of Dynamic Island, saying that Honor introduced such a feature in 2019 with the launch of Honor V20.

At that time, Honor was operating under Huawei and the company launched this phone. It made a huge success in both China and the global market. Yet, Honor CEO is right that the phone was the first to come with a smart capsule feature, which helps to see important notifications.

Apple Dynamic Island

According to the information, Honor V20 is also one of the first smartphones to bring a hole-punch display. Therefore, the phone uses this virtual pop-out capsule coming out from the back of the front camera. This was so innovative and many of the Chinese phone makers adapted such technologies in their devices.

In action, the front camera is also linked with the feature and suggests posture correction in real-time with that virtual capsule. In terms of interaction, the capsule comes out from the left with animation and goes back within a few seconds after showing the content.

Huawei also promoted this feature in its Huawei Nova 4 series devices, which also garnered good attention.

Lacking Innovation:

The Honor Chief later mentioned the key challenges of the mobile industries, saying that the market is getting complicated and many companies are facing a big bottleneck of innovation. As a result, the global smartphone shipments continue to decline.
