Huawei has released its financial report, recording a 16% hike in sales for the first three quarters of this year. The nine-month data reveals strong revenue growth following the high demand for flagship phones equipped with Kirin 5G chips.

The company published the Q3 2024 financial report. It shows Huawei’s overall sales and profit journey over the past nine months. While the tech giant has scored well in the sales section, it has significantly dropped in net profit this time.

Huawei sales jumped 16% (YoY) to $23.7 billion (168.4 billion yuan) in September 2024. The total revenue in the first three quarters is 585.9 billion yuan.

Last year, the company made a sales revenue of 452.3 billion yuan, in the same period. This time, Huawei grew by 29.5% achieving big success in sales.

Although the company’s net profit has slightly declined compared to 2023. Huawei has posted a drop of 13.7% in 9-month net profit. The tech giant has earned 62.87 billion yuan ($8.83 billion) in the first three quarters of 2024. Whereas, last year’s profit was 72.89 billion yuan ($10.23 billion).

The company shared its financial report via the Shanghai Clearing House website. It hasn’t revealed the breakdown of its sales hike or net profit drop. Yet the figure shows that Huawei has to work more to fight against its rivals in the market.

A recent report by IDC highlighted a 42% shipment growth of Huawei’s smartphones. Meanwhile, the demand for Ascend AI chips is gradually increasing in China as an alternative to Nvidia processors. The tech maker is also expanding its smart car solution business with advanced techs and more partners.

These seem some of the reasons behind Huawei sales growth of 16% in the first three quarters. Speaking of R&D investment, the company has raised the R&D expenses to 127.412 billion yuan. It is a year-on-year increase of 10.80% and accounts for 21.75% of the revenue. The only lag is net profit with a 13.2% margin.

Pura 70 and Mate 60 series immensely led Huawei to the top 3 ranking in the Q3 2024 Chinese smartphone market. After the IDC, another report sheds light on China’s handset sector for Q3 2024, with dynamic results for the top five phone makers.

Counterpoint released the Q3 2024 Chinese smartphone listing today with an increment of 2.3% YoY. The top 3 rankers in this report are Vivo, Huawei, and Xiaomi.

Huawei ranked second in the Q3 2024 Chinese smartphone report, thanks to the Pura 70 and Mate 60 series. Counterpoint notes that the company has a strong foothold in the market. With constant determination, the firm achieved 30% YoY growth.

The report further states that the Pura 70 and Mate 60 series eventually contributed the most to Huawei’s sales this time. Launched last year, the Mate 60 Pro is still an in-demand product among consumers for its amazing features.

Pura 70 series on the flip side, is a major attraction point in the market. Its trendy design, camera capabilities, AI features, the Kirin 9010 5G chip, and satellite functions have boosted its shipment to 6.5 million units in just six months.

The popularity of both the lineups reflects Huawei’s strong presence in the Chinese premium smartphone segment. The company holds 16.4% of the market share and sits at the second position with an increase of 29.7% in the annual growth rate.

As per a previous report, Pura 70 and Mate 60 series also helped Huawei to outpace Apple in the Chinese smartphone market for the third quarter of this year.

Huawei even reduced prices of the Pura 70 and Mate 60 series following the Mate 70 series launch preparations. The devices are available at a low cost under the Double 11 sale event as well as the VMall.

Other Rankers

Speaking of other rankers, Vivo is currently leading in the Chinese market with a 10.1% YoY growth and 19.2% market share. Xiaomi took the third spot with a progress rate of 13.4%. The credit goes to the Redmi K series and Mi smartphones.

Honor and OPPO grabbed fourth and fifth positions respectively with a significant downfall. Meanwhile, Apple is standing in the sixth spot with a 2.6% decline in growth rate. Although the company is expected to rise soon in the Chinese market.

Counterpoint adds that more than 70% of the iPhone 16 series sales came from the Pro and Pro Max models, as of October 8. This trend could lead to a boost in the company’s revenue in the time ahead.

Huawei and Apple are constantly wrestling for the crown of smartphone sales in China. Both tech giants are offering their best creations to Chinese customers. Although this time too, Huawei seems to have an edge over the iPhone maker.

IDC recently released the Q3 2024 Chinese smartphone market report. It’s an analysis of how tech vendors performed in sales for the third quarter of this year.

Speaking of the top three rankers of the market in Q3, Vivo grabbed first place whereas the iPhone maker and Huawei ranked second and third respectively.

Apple has been edged out from the top 5 Chinese phone listing last time. But somehow, it has entered the space again. That could be due to the iPhone 16 series glowtime. Despite a comeback, the company faced a 0.3% decline in sales.

Huawei on the flip side, continued to roar in smartphone sales and surpass Apple in China. The company occupies 15.3% of the market share while its shipment progress has increased by 42.%. It is ahead of Apple sales in the third quarter, this year.

Regardless of a spot ahead, Apple is suffering in the Chinese smartphone market. Why so? Well, here are the reasons that summarize the fall of the iPhone maker.

1. Huawei Pura 70 series: A creative invention!

The flagship lineup launched in April this year. The name itself created a huge buzz among consumers as they were expecting the “P-70”. Another amazing part is the camera design. Unlike the P60, the Pura 70 adopted a new triangular lens framework.

Retractable lens of Pura 70 Ultra gives a Pro photographer-like feel to users. Also, the satellite image-sending capability increased the excitement of the Pura 70 series to a whole new level.

Although the years-ago design of the iPhone continues without any major changes. iPhone 16 appears as an exception with some sweet color options.

2. Mate 60 series, still in demand

Huawei Mate 60 series was launched last year but still has the same craze as at the release time. The Pro variant continues to rule the Chinese smartphone market for its significant features, Kirin 9000s chipset, and satellite calling capability.

3. China is supporting Huawei

Of course, the home ground is now having back of Huawei. Many Chinese firms prohibited the use of iPhones on the premises, following government norms. The aim is to use the least U.S. products as they continue to impose strict sanctions on the country.

Apart from Huawei, other competitors like Honor, Xiaomi, and Vivo are trying to stop Apple from gaining a foothold in the Chinese smartphone ground.

These reasons are probably affecting Apple iPhone’s sales in China. It’s not like Apple isn’t doing good. Many Chinese consumers still prefer iPhones rather than any other handset. Yet, the company has to make more effort to achieve success in China.

IDC has released a new report on the Chinese foldable market ranking for Q3 2024 and Huawei has captured the first spot. The analysis also reveals the overall progress of the Chinese foldable segment in the third quarter of this year.

As per the rankings, Huawei took first place in the Q3 2024 Chinese foldable market race. It obtained 41.0% of the market share with a better annual growth rate.

The company secured the top position following the fruitful success of the Mate XT tri-fold. Huawei launched its new creation last month with three folding screens. It bears a Z form factor and uses a dual-hinge technology to maintain durability.

IDC report states that Huawei’s tri-fold opened a new track in the foldable game. Many tech vendors are now busy readying their tri-folding handset as the champion Mate XT leads in the market. We may witness more such creations in the future.

“…the launch of the world’s first tri-foldable phone is expected to further drive the foldable market development.” – said IDC.

Apart from Huawei, the report highlights seven top rankers of the Q3 2024 Chinese folding phone sector. Honor follows its parent firm at the second spot with a 21.9% market share. It has achieved second place in horizontal foldable devices while the third position in the clamshell product market.

Huawei Q3 2024 Chinese foldable

Xiaomi ranked third in the Chinese foldable market. This is the first time after Q2 2021 that the MIX Fold maker entered the top three foldable rankers list. It achieved a market share of 17.2% following the success of the new MIX Fold.

Samsung captured 7.7% of the market share whereas, Vivo is in fifth place, ranking third in the horizontal foldable market. OPPO, Lenovo, and ZTE secured the sixth, seventh, and eighth positions respectively in the Q3 2024 Chinese foldable market.

IDC also mentioned that the Chinese foldable market shipped around 2.23 million units in the third quarter of 2024. The year-on-year growth is better but has slowed down significantly, compared to the previous eight quarters.

The research firm notes that foldable phones still have room for changes as well as improvements. The price and experience of the product don’t meet everyone’s needs like a regular phone. Hence, tech makers have to make more innovative folding devices.

Huawei once again gave a strong bang to Apple iPhone sales in the Chinese smartphone market for Q3 2024. Both tech makers continue to escalate the fierce competition in China. A report has shared more insights on this matter.

IDC report shows that Huawei surpassed Apple in the Chinese smartphone sales ranking for Q3 2024. The analysis also counts some other tech giants with their progress and falls in the Chinese consumer market for the third quarter of this year.

Apple and Huawei made their way into the top five rankers list. The former grabbed second spot whereas the latter ranked third. Despite a rank ahead, Apple’s yearly iPhone sales dropped to 0.3%, achieving 15.6% of the market share in Q3 2023.

Huawei achieved third place in Q3 2024 with a market share of 15.3%. It’s just 0.3% less than that of Apple and increased by 4.3% from the last year (same period).

Regarding progress, the company excelled in the Q3 2024 Chinese phone sales ranking with 42.0% YoY. It’s the largest figure among all the top 5 rankers. This is the fourth consecutive quarter that Huawei continued to progress with double-digit sales.

Huawei’s growth over Apple is the result of booming sales of the Mate 60 and Pura 70 series. Both flagship lineups have been shining like stars in the Chinese smartphone market since their launch. You can check Pura 70 shipment details HERE.

On the flip side, the Chinese authorities and firms constantly prohibited the use of iPhones in the country. This step affected the sales of the iPhone in the market.

Apple unveiled iPhone 16 models in September but the shine of this series also faded, following Huawei’s tri-fold phone. It looks like the Chinese OEM continues creating problems for the iPhone maker in every possible way it can.

Speaking of other rankers, Vivo caught the first place with 18.6% market share and 21.5% YoY growth. Xiaomi is in fourth place with a 14.8% market share and 12.8% YoY progress. Honor is last with 14.6% shares but a lag of 22.5% YoY annual growth.

Together, these rankers boosted Chinese smartphone shipments by 3.2% YoY (68.8 million units in the third quarter of this year). Arthur Guo, the senior research analyst at IDC China says:

“A significant wave of device upgrades is propelling the sustained recovery of the Chinese smartphone market. Despite ongoing challenges, consumers are highly motivated to purchase new smartphones after three years of pent-up demand.”

Huawei has been outperforming Apple in the Chinese tablet shipments for two consecutive quarters and this victory continued in Q2 2024 as well. A new report says the MatePad maker shipped 20.5 million tablets in the second quarter of this year.

Earlier IDC reported that Huawei tablet shipments increased to 46.9% in the Q2 2024 Chinese market. Now Canalys revealed the exact figure of tablets sold by the brand.

According to the report, Huawei has made 20.5 million tablet shipments in the Chinese market for Q2 2024. The company has ranked first in this race, defeating tech makers like Apple, Xiaomi, and Honor. It also holds 26% of the market share.

The tech giant has succeeded in shipments and market share compared to last year. The new shipment figure further boosted the company’s annual growth by 66%.

Canalys notes that the Chinese tablet market has become highly competitive due to local tech vendors like Huawei. The company has already introduced various MatePad products this year. The latest one is the dual-layer OLED MatePad Pro 12.2 which is getting immense support and attention from consumers.

Apple has followed Huawei in the second spot and shipped around 20.1 million tablets in the region. While the market share is similar to Huawei, the iPad maker is seeing a 14% decline in the annual growth.

Xiaomi has ranked third with 9.25 million tablet shipments and 12% of the market share. Honor belongs to the fourth position. The company shipped 6.5 million tablets and obtained an 8% share in the Chinese tablet market. It has scored 63% YoY growth.

Lenovo grabbed the fifth place with an annual progress of 12%. It has sold 4.9 million tablets and owns 6% of the market share. Apart from the top 5 rankers, Canalys says that the Chinese tablet market has shipped around 7.8 million tablets this quarter. The overall sales increased by 20% – thanks to online promotions.

The market research firm expects that the Chinese tablet market will further grow by 9% this year. Meanwhile, tech vendors will use more AI features to attract customers.

Analyst Emma Xu says:

“To drive stronger business outcomes, vendors must focus on market expansion and differentiation to enhance user experiences. Leveraging on-device AI models will be particularly beneficial in this regard.”

Following Huawei Mate XT, Samsung is now in the news to soon launch a rollable phone. The South Korean firm looks ready to challenge the world’s first triple-folding handset with an extraordinary rolling foldable phone in the time ahead.

TheElec reports that Samsung could introduce the world’s first rollable phone next year. It seems the company is slightly shifting its focus towards a rolling foldable amid the S25 series development. Yet the device won’t debut as early as H2 2025.

Samsung already showcased its rollable phone prototype “Rollable Flex” during the CES 2024 event. Perhaps the company is now planning to bring this creation into the real world with a giant screen, advanced specs, and top-of-the-line features.

Inputs further reveal that the Samsung rollable-style phone may equip a 12.4-inch display, bigger than the Huawei Mate XT. It may get fully rolled out form for a compact feel on hands. The next major addition seems an under-display selfie shooter.

The name of this innovation is unclear for now. Although it might launch in the place of Galaxy Z Fold 7 next year. What else Samsung will adopt for its rollable device is a currently secret. Yet the aim would surely be to challenge Huawei’s tri-fold.

Mate XT – the world’s first tri-fold!

Huawei has become an ultimate foldable maker after launching the first-ever triple-foldable. Despite three screens, the device is 12.8mm thick when folded, slightly less than Galaxy Z Fold 6 but appears equal in live image, Check HERE.

Note that Huawei has also been in rumors for over two years to introduce a rollable-display phone. Months-ago report suggested that the company may launch such a device this year. Though the space is occupied by Mate XT. But who knows, the company could also bring a rollable device next year.

After the Mate developer, tech makers like Honor, Samsung, and Xiaomi are planning to jump into the sea of innovation. The Magic V3 maker is said to bring a 10mm thick tri-fold, thinner than Mate XT. Samsung, on the other hand, will turn to “rollable”.

This says the upcoming foldable phone market is going to be interesting and may ignite more fierce competition. It would be worth seeing who grabs the crown of the second smartphone maker in the innovative foldable race.

Counterpoint has revealed the kids smartwatch growth in global markets for Q2 2024 and Huawei ranked second in this listing. The Chinese phone maker has captured 11% of the market share in the worldwide children’s wearable segment.

Huawei is significantly growing in the global wearable market. As per an IDC report, the company topped the respective ranking in the second quarter of this year.

Now another report is here, showing the company’s contribution to the kids’ smartwatch section. Inputs reveal that Huawei obtained the second spot in the Q2 2024 global kids smartwatch market listing with a market share of 11%.

The company is seeing a slight decline in this category compared to other tech vendors in the space. The decline rate is unknown. Although a drop could be because Huawei shifted its focus towards advanced watch categories like the GT 5 series.

The good news is that Huawei managed to make it to the list of top three brands. Counterpoint says that the market is still undeveloped. But as soon as it grows, more of the tech giants will get a chance to improve their position in this segment.

Looking at the other rankers, BBK (Imoo) has ranked first with 48% of the total share in this field. Meanwhile, Xiaomi is sitting in third place with 4% of the market share. Rest of the 38% share has been taken by Honor, boAt, noise, Fitbit, and others.

Further details state that Chinese tech makers have mainly led the global kids smartwatch market this time, with a 64% share. This is less than 72%, last year. Some particular regions managed to grow even in the period of recession.

North America, for instance, has progressed 1.5x following the new Fitbit watch release and the expansion of the other brands in the market. As per the info, the overall global kids smartwatch shipments raised by 4%YoY in the second quarter of 2024.

Counterpoint says that kids smartwatches have become popular among consumers in recent times. Parents are mainly preferring the device to keep their children away from smartphones as well as the harmful impacts of social media. This segment will likely reach 7% growth in the upcoming months.

Apple iPhone 16 series is now official but it seems the flagship lineup failed to impress Chinese users due to a lack of AI and the growing popularity of the Huawei tri-fold. Many people criticized the models for the absence of artificial intelligence.

The U.S. tech giant launched its next-gen iPhone models on September 9. The new handsets arrived in elegant shades, interesting features, as well as AI capabilities. Although the twist is that AI functions in China will only be available next year.

Inputs reveal that the US company hasn’t announced its AI partner or the super-capable Apple Intelligence (Apple’s AI software) in China. It’s said to be available in the Chinese language only by next year.

AI-less iPhone 16 models immediately resulted in a buzz among Chinese consumers and they started comparing the new handsets with the Huawei tri-fold phone.

Weibo shows the iPhone 16 launch, AI, and a few more Apple-related news in the top 10 trending topics. A popular hashtag on Weibo is: “iPhone 16 Chinese version doesn’t support AI yet”. This tag received 11.33 million views with 1500 comments.

Users commented:

“What’s the point of buying it if you can’t use AI?”
“Without AI as the biggest selling point, it should be a half price”

Huawei iPhone 16 AI

Despite the lack of AI, the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus costs the same as the predecessors. However, the company might reduce the price in the time ahead.

Some users even said that the iPhone 16 with or without AI doesn’t affect them as they will purchase Huawei’s triple-folding phone. Following this buzz, a few analysts predicted the upcoming ups and downs in Apple’s sales in the Chinese market.

Toby Zhu – a Canalys analyst said that the absence of AI in iPhone 16 could negatively affect Apple later. AI is a key subject in flagship products these days. Hence, Apple needs to develop an AI app or service ecosystem in China to remain competitive.

On the other hand, IDC analyst Will Wong says:

“The key competitive advantage of Apple is its strong customer stickiness. Thus, the replacement needs of the users of the iPhone 11, 12, or 13 series could still support the sales of Apple in the absence of AI. It’s still too early to say who will win”

Yes, it’s too early to say who will win between Apple and Huawei as the tri-fold phone has yet to see a market response. For now, we can only wait for the upcoming results of the fierce competition between the two tech giants.

Huawei is giving a tough fight to Samsung and Apple in the global wearable market for Q2 2024. A recent analysis shows that Chinese tech vendors are now performing quite well in the wearable sector surpassing many of the foreign competitors.

IDC research organization has released the global wearable market report for Q2 2024. This time, the worldwide market sold 43.7 million units which is 0.7% less than the last year same period. Despite a decline, smartwatch vendors achieved progress.
