Huawei Mate 70 series will not only come with new and advanced features but also improved battery life. A new leak says that the upcoming flagship will offer stronger battery performance than its predecessor, even if the cell capacity isn’t higher.

FixedFocus revealed that the Huawei Mate 70 series cell won’t exceed the 6000mAh capacity. None of the models carry a giant battery like that of the Magic 7 lineup.

Although another tipster in the comment section hints that the Huawei Mate 70 series will likely provide improved and more reliable battery life than ever before.

Some netizens even predicted that Huawei could use a 5500 or 5700mAh battery for the Mate 70 smartphones this time. A good cell capacity offers more efficient and longer-lasting power to a device, making it more durable for every scenario.

For reference, the Huawei Mate 60 series contains a 5000mAh battery, except for the standard model (4750mAh). It would be worth seeing if the company makes any changes to this configuration or uses the same capacity for the next lineup.

A new Huawei Hi Enjoy smartphone has recently appeared on the 3C site with 40W charging. The device is currently in the developing phase and hasn’t confirmed its name yet. However, a new leak says that it could launch later this month.

Weibo tipster @UncleKanshan notes that a new Huawei Hi Enjoy series phone has recently received the 3C certification with 40W charging. It falls under the WIKO Devices brand and has the model number JEY-AN00.

The tipster reveals that the device’s codename is Jerry. While the launch time is unclear, the leak hints that the new Hi Enjoy smartphone could release this month.

Following the new input, a few netizens predicted that this might be the Hi Enjoy 70 Plus phone. WIKO launched the standard model of this series featuring a Dimensity 700 chip two months back. The company may now reveal its Plus variant.

Other details of the device are currently unknown. But we may find them in the coming days.

Ren Zhengfei – the Founder of Huawei Technologies recently said that the company had been left with no choice but to develop its tech after the US ban. The executive shared his thoughts on how US sanctions affected the company in the past few years.

Zhengfei attended the ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Content) coding competition for university students yesterday. He talked with students about the company, technology, future goals, and various other relevant topics.

During an interrogation with students, Ren said the U.S. has openness and inclusivity in its tech community that benefits it in every field including the chipmaking sector.

Ren believes that Huawei can learn from the receptive culture of the US as it makes the country advance in science and technology. The founder adds the US ban led Huawei to build its tech as it cannot access advanced tools from foreign markets.

“The US has set an example for all countries and companies worldwide on being open. If a country is closed off, it will fall behind.” – says Ren Zhengfei.

US vs Huawei

US sanctions hit Huawei in 2019 due to security concerns. As of now, the foreign authorities tightened the trade controls to continue blocking Huawei from accessing advanced chipmaking tools or equipment.

However, these restrictions have also shown some positive results. Due to the US ban, Huawei started marching on the self-sufficiency path and making the country self-dependent rather than relying on foreign goods, AI chips, and software.

“American technologies and tools are very good… [but] Huawei cannot use them; we had no choice but to create our tools. Open innovation and utilizing the advanced achievements of others is the true way forward for an enterprise.” – Ren Zhengfei.

The executive also believes that AI is becoming unstoppable. It is creating turning points for many firms. If Huawei uses AI in the best ways, it could achieve more success in the time ahead. However, the company needs to put more effort into being at the top in the AI race.

Huawei has released its financial report, recording a 16% hike in sales for the first three quarters of this year. The nine-month data reveals strong revenue growth following the high demand for flagship phones equipped with Kirin 5G chips.

The company published the Q3 2024 financial report. It shows Huawei’s overall sales and profit journey over the past nine months. While the tech giant has scored well in the sales section, it has significantly dropped in net profit this time.

Huawei sales jumped 16% (YoY) to $23.7 billion (168.4 billion yuan) in September 2024. The total revenue in the first three quarters is 585.9 billion yuan.

Last year, the company made a sales revenue of 452.3 billion yuan, in the same period. This time, Huawei grew by 29.5% achieving big success in sales.

Although the company’s net profit has slightly declined compared to 2023. Huawei has posted a drop of 13.7% in 9-month net profit. The tech giant has earned 62.87 billion yuan ($8.83 billion) in the first three quarters of 2024. Whereas, last year’s profit was 72.89 billion yuan ($10.23 billion).

The company shared its financial report via the Shanghai Clearing House website. It hasn’t revealed the breakdown of its sales hike or net profit drop. Yet the figure shows that Huawei has to work more to fight against its rivals in the market.

A recent report by IDC highlighted a 42% shipment growth of Huawei’s smartphones. Meanwhile, the demand for Ascend AI chips is gradually increasing in China as an alternative to Nvidia processors. The tech maker is also expanding its smart car solution business with advanced techs and more partners.

These seem some of the reasons behind Huawei sales growth of 16% in the first three quarters. Speaking of R&D investment, the company has raised the R&D expenses to 127.412 billion yuan. It is a year-on-year increase of 10.80% and accounts for 21.75% of the revenue. The only lag is net profit with a 13.2% margin.

Huawei Mate 70 series still has time to go official and Honor is already seeing this lineup as the “strongest competitor”. One of the executives recently mentioned that Huawei’s upcoming flagship product would be the toughest rival in the market.

Zhao Ming – the CEO of Honor attended an exclusive interview after the Magic 7 series launch event. During the interrogation, a reporter asked if the company sees any biggest competitor in the fierce flagship smartphone competition. “Is it Mate 70?”

Ming replied that Huawei Mate 70 feels like the strongest rival at present. The executive said he doesn’t doubt the respective phone’s potential to rule the market.

He added that Honor is still growing and it wouldn’t be right to talk about rivals this early. The company only aims to develop better devices and the rest of the decision is in consumers’ hands.

“Huawei Mate 70 is the strongest competitor of all brands, there is no doubt about that. …we’re still growing and it is too early to talk about competitors. We must do our best and let consumers recognize our products.” – Zhao Ming.

The Honor CEO implied that the Huawei Mate 70 could be the toughest competitor in the market. The flagship series will enter the real world by next month.

Zhao mentioned that Honor has been working hard for the past few years to prove itself. Yet, it still sees certain doubts on R&D capabilities and the ability to innovate. The question “Can we develop better after being separated from Huawei” persists.

The CEO meant that Honor had to take major steps and implement new changes in terms of innovation. The company has introduced many useful solutions for its devices. For instance, the Qinghai Lake battery, Eagle Eye camera, and more.

“We relied on products and hard work. In this process, I think it is more important for Honor to be the best version of itself.” – said Zhao Ming.

Mate 70 Series

Huawei will launch four models with the Mate 70 series: Standard, Pro, Pro+, and RS Ultimate Design. The lineup will bring major upgrades and could be the first to equip a new Kirin 5nm chip as well as HarmonyOS NEXT software system.

Other changes will be visible as enhanced photography experience, faster touch responses, improved video recording, as well as an upgraded fingerprint unlock solution.

Huawei is seemingly preparing for more Kirin 8000 chip products after the MatePad 11.5 2024 release. A leak says the company may launch more devices, running on the Kirin 8000 processor this year. The products could be new phones and tablets.

FixedFocus revealed that Huawei still has many Kirin 8000 products in the pipeline. The processor could be used in new MatePad tablets and the upcoming Enjoy series. The company will probably unveil these devices by the end of this year.

On October 30, Huawei quietly unveiled the MatePad 11.5 2024 tablet. The company didn’t reveal the chipset info. However, an early leak suggested that the device uses Kirin 8000. It seems the OEM is planning more new products with the same chip.

The leak doesn’t specify any release time for these products. Yet, Huawei will likely unveil a new tablet and another Enjoy series before wrapping up this year.

Huawei hasn’t confirmed the news yet. Hence, let’s take this input with a grain of salt and wait for the official statements on this matter.

TSMC has recently halted its chip supply for a Chinese company – Sophgo, as it is suspected to have ties with Huawei. Although the company released a statement, denying all these allegations. The chip battle is turning more fierce day by day.

Sophgo is a computing power service provider in China. It affiliates with Bitmain Tech and focuses on developing AI chips and products such as the RISC-V CPU.

TechInsights reported that a TSMC-made chip resides in Huawei Ascend 910B. Hereafter, the Taiwanese chipmaker blocked its chip shipment for one of the suspected Chinese firms. It looks like Sophogo is that particular firm.

Inputs reveal that Sophgo had ordered a certain amount of chips from the Taiwanese chip producer which seemed identical to Huawei Ascend 910B.

As a result, TSMC blocked chip supply for Sophgo as it suspected it to be a prime supplier of Huawei. But the AI firm denied such blame, saying that it has no ties with the Kirin chipset maker. The company even released a statement on its website:

“SOPHGO has been conducting business in strict compliance with applicable laws and regulations… and has never violated any of such laws and regulations. SOPHGO has never been engaged in any direct or indirect business relationship with Huawei.”

TSMC vs Huawei

TSMC investigation stepped up after one of its important SoCs was found in the Huawei Ascend 910B. Both firms deny having any links with each other.

However, the U.S. authorities are seeing this incident as a major threat to their national security. Some foreign lawmakers even demanded answers and solutions to this happening at the earliest. Or else, it may become a huge problem for TSMC.

U.S. investigation circulates on whether TSMC has supplied its chips to China by any means. Although the probe didn’t find any significant revelations so far.

The search for loopholes in the US trade export controls and the secret behind China’s chip progress is in full swing. We may hit more details on this matter in the upcoming days.

A few analysts recently pointed out that the long-standing U.S. sanctions on Huawei chip tech have proven porous. The statement came after TSMC was suspected of supplying chipmaking tools and other important parts to the Chinese phone maker.

U.S. authorities are probing TSMC these days as TechInsights found a key component made by the Taiwanese firm in the Huawei processor. Read the story HERE.

This led to major discussion among U.S. lawmakers and congressmen for “security concerns”. They even ordered TSMC to respond on this matter at the earliest.

Amid the investigation, some analysts said that the long-term U.S. sanctions seemingly have loopholes for the Huawei chip tech. It didn’t affect the company rather helped it to become independent in advanced semiconductor manufacturing.

One of these analysts is Arisa Liu, the Director of the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research. She says:

“US long-term sanctions on China’s semiconductor sector have proven to be porous.”

TSMC said that it hasn’t shipped any chips to Huawei since September 2020. Huawei also added that the company hasn’t developed any chips via TSMC after the U.S. sanctions. Hence, the confusion on how a TSMC SoC made its way to Huawei persists.

However, the current scenario hints that the strict U.S. restrictions as well as trade rules aren’t affecting much to Chinese companies. Following such converse, the U.S. authorities may increase the trade export controls on China in the future.

Huawei is constantly improving its chips using native technologies. The company has said that its Ascend 910B chip is doing great and can draw level with the Nvidia A100. Ascend 910C is also in the pipeline and will soon join the processor series.

It would be worth seeing how this ongoing investigation on TSMC and China’s chipset growth will proceed in the coming days.
