Huawei Wallet HarmonyOS NEXT app is seemingly ready with a simpler UI and more useful features. The new application is probably available on the HarmonyOS NEXT AppGallery and eligible device users can check it and explore the latest additions.

The tech giant started the native HarmonyOS app chain last year. Till now, the HarmonyOS NEXT application count surpassed 15000 and more apps will join this ecosystem. One of these is Huawei Wallet which promises a better experience.

Inputs reveal that the Huawei Wallet HarmonyOS NEXT app brings several new features and capabilities. Starting with the interface, the app now has a newer and simpler UI than before. It offers easy-to-understand visuals for an efficient experience.

Users can easily understand the app and manage their numerous cards, coupons, tickets, and certificates, without being confused between new or older sections.

The top section appears as a visual cardholder. It holds your payment card, transportation card, car key, and access card. One can manage and change the card position as per their preference. The below section shows two tabs: Home and Me.

No need to log in to old or other devices to manage your local account cards. Just ensure that you are using the same Huawei ID and manage all your cards more conveniently. The app also allows you to add cards to wearables without collaborating with any other app. Thus, you can experience the wallet on multiple devices.

Huawei Wallet HarmonyOS NEXT features

The company has also improved the existing features of the app:
  • Double-tap on the power button: Click the power button twice to make quicker payments. This gesture will lead you directly to the payment PIN (code) for the transaction, without going through many steps.
  • Touch and Pay: Place your device close to the POS machine and make payments.
  • Transportation Card: You can use the app for transportation cards. While using a bus or subway, just keep your device close to the gate for identity authorization.
  • Access Card: One can add unlimited access cards to Huawei Wallet. This eliminates the need for a physical card to open your house’s door.
  • One-tap car control: Huawei Wallet brings you the car key feature for an easier car experience. It supports AITO, STELATO, Luxeed, BYD, Denza, Leopard, and Yangwang auto. One can unlock the car by tapping on the car’s body. It also supports remote car control and car search

Most of these features were already present in the app. Although these are now faster, smoother, and more convenient than before.

HarmonyOS NEXT unlocks a whole new level of security that makes app installation much safer. It not only detects harmful applications but also prohibits them from getting installed on your device. Hence, your data is on the safe side always.

The tech giant says that HarmonyOS NEXT equips a Star Shield Security framework. This new addition ensures the safety of the app ecosystem in the device.

Simply put, the architecture looks after the app installation and relevant operations in the HarmonyOS NEXT devices. It checks if an app is running accurately.

Star Shield Security further enhances the AppGallery in the HarmonyOS NEXT. Huawei says that the new App Store in the latest software contains 200 detection capabilities. These components trace every app present in the application store.

Also, several experts review apps before listing them on the AppGallery. If an application and its codes do not meet HarmonyOS NEXT security standards, the experts restrict it and don’t list it on the AppGallery.

“Codes and applications that do not meet security requirements cannot be put on the AppGallery or installed on devices. Every app is traceable with a real name.” says Huawei.

This addition claims that HarmonyOS NEXT makes the app installations safer than ever before. It keeps an eye on the app while it downloads on a device.

During the installation, if the software detects an illegal operation such as an attack on private data, system, or more, it restricts the app running and stops the installation. Thus, your data remains out of the reach of third-party servers.

HarmonyOS NEXT also blocks 9 types of unnecessary permissions for installed applications:

  • Reading the list of installed apps
  • Accessing text messages
  • Accessing storage files
  • Creating home screen shortcuts
  • Obtaining device information
  • Displaying floating windows
  • Accessing call logs
  • Installing apps within apps
  • Making and managing calls

A tiny privacy indicator on the status bar will constantly remind you when an app is found using a mic, camera, or location. It will also display all the details such as the sensitive permissions of the application in real-time.

System-level file encryption is another beneficial feature that ensures only the device owners or authorized users can access their encrypted files on the phone/tablet. It doesn’t limit sharing and supports Word, Excel, PPT, PDF, and TXT formats.

These HarmonyOS NEXT capabilities ensure that the apps in Huawei devices do not lead to data leaks or unauthorized access to confidential details of users.

Huawei is issuing a new notice for its app developers that says the all-new HarmonyOS NEXT AppGallery will only support API 12 apps. App makers should upgrade to the new DevEco Studio NEXT release before the first week of next month.

The company is informing its app developers about the new HarmonyOS NEXT API 12 SDK. As per the official notice, Huawei will only support API 12-based apps on the HarmonyOS NEXT AppGallery, starting from November 10, 2024.

Other applications based on the beta API 12 or below builds won’t be listed on the AppGallery. Hence, developers should update their apps to the latest SDK version at the earliest. Or else, their applications may face restriction problems.

“Starting from November 10, 2024, Huawei AppGallery on HarmonyOS NEXT will only support API 12 apps that have integrated Release SDK and Beta apps of API 12 or below will be restricted. Please complete the version update as soon as possible. Thank you for your cooperation and support!.”

API (Application Programming Interface) and SDK (Software Development Kit) are significant tools for developers to build apps. In the latest API 12 release, Huawei made amendments that make apps more compatible with HarmonyOS NEXT.

Inputs further reveal that Huawei has released the DevEco Studio NEXT 5.0.3.900 version. It is a dedicated development platform for apps and services. It offers multiple features and supports various programming languages, the multi-device preview of UI codes, and other significant tools for app making.

The company is now asking its developers to download the new DevEco Studio version for recompiling and updating their applications with the API 12 SDK.

Changes:

  • ohpm-repo adds the use_reverse_proxy field to configure whether to use the reverse proxy option.
  • The API capability level of this version is API 12 release

Doing so will make the native apps more compatible with HarmonyOS NEXT as well as enable users to easily manage them on their devices. It will also make them stable and more responsive towards new features and existing services.

It’s October 8 and Huawei launches the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta program for its eligible devices. The company has opened public testing for selected handset users. However, the current activity will soon be expanded to more devices.

HarmonyOS NEXT public beta program has brought an end to the long-running anticipation of consumers. Previous testing versions were limited to developers and early adopters. But now the company has extended the testing to public testers.

Up to this point, the company has pushed off several developer beta builds for experienced software testers. Now the new self-developed software is open to general device users to explore new features before the stable release.

The tech giant has launched the latest beta activity for the first batch of devices. The list includes Mate 60 series, Mate X5 foldable, and MatePad Pro 13.2 tablet.

Simply put, the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta version will be available to these device users right after they sign up in the current testing pool. They don’t have to wait for the rollout like the closed beta devices (Pura 70, Pocket 2, and more).

How to sign up?

Eligible device users can check the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta activity on the My Huawei app. Open the application and select the “Upgrade” or “Upgrade to Try” option. Wait for a few minutes and follow the on-screen prompts to register.

After completing the signup, users will immediately get the new public beta update with some interesting features and a set of new improvements. Users may also get a chance to test the new native HarmonyOS app versions and their changes.

Users can further share their feedback, and suggestions, or report issues using the My Huawei app > Community. It will eventually help in improving the software.

Points to remember

HarmonyOS NEXT public beta activity will push testing builds to devices. Being a new software, the installation may lead to the deletion of your data. Hence, it is better to take a backup beforehand to avoid any data loss.

Also, the company is still adapting some applications to HarmonyOS. It will detect and prompt the apps that are not available in the HarmonyOS NEXT AppGallery. However, if you face abnormal functioning with any app then don’t worry, as it is a normal software behavior.

Huawei has allegedly opened the Petal Maps HarmonyOS NEXT app build for public beta activity. The company has released two testing versions. One of these is regular while the other one is the HarmonyOS native app version with new features support.

Weibo tipster @AdakFenglangjuxu notes that Huawei Petal Maps based on the HarmonyOS NEXT app version is open for public testing. The beta has NEXT 1.4 build.

The company has also kicked off a testing version of the regular Petal Maps app. Users with HarmonyOS NEXT eligible devices can explore the native app version. Meanwhile, the non-beta users can choose the regular build and enjoy a stable experience.

In terms of features, Huawei has launched the bus navigation tool for both the regular and native HarmonyOS Petal Maps versions. It is a smart tool that shows real-time bus navigation on the map. Although there’s a catch.

Users can’t use this feature directly on the Petal Maps app. They need to download a ‘Bus Coming’ App to experience the real-time bus viewing experience. After tapping the “View real-time bus” feature in the Petal Maps, it will directly land users on the third-party app. One can use this app without log-in factors.

HarmonyOS 4.2 is full of useful features and one such is the App Security Center. As the term suggests, the respective application hub ensures that your data remains protected from the apps that you have installed or are about to install on the device.

Applications are one of the major segments of the smartphone. A phone holder uses various systems and third-party apps in a single day to meet their daily needs.

But do you know that most of the third-party apps present in the app store can steal your device’s data? That’s true and this scary thought might restrict many of users from installing any new application on your smartphone next time.

Thanks to HarmonyOS 4.2 – it has the App Security Center. This tool in your Huawei phone protects your data and confidential information from prying apps.

How? Let’s find out!

App Security Center is a real-time security management tool. It detects the behavior and data collection process of all such apps that aren’t recognized by Huawei AppGallery.

For instance, when you download and install an application from any other platform than AppGallery like a browser, the app security center prompt will appear on the screen. Users can follow the on-screen steps to move the app into the respective center.

Hereafter, the App Security Center will analyze the app behavior and check if the application performs any malicious or risky tasks that don’t meet the security standards.

If the app is free of such issues, users can continue to use it on their Huawei phones. Or else, the installation will be blocked. Thus, the user’s data remains safe at all costs. The tool keeps your sensitive personal info under wraps so that you can enjoy a safer and more efficient app experience.

How to access HarmonyOS 4.2 App Security Center?

Users can make their way to the Settings app. Tap on the System & Updates section and click on the App Guard option. Turn on the Enhanced Protection for apps’ security inspection.
