Huawei Mate 70 series still has time to go official and Honor is already seeing this lineup as the “strongest competitor”. One of the executives recently mentioned that Huawei’s upcoming flagship product would be the toughest rival in the market.

Zhao Ming – the CEO of Honor attended an exclusive interview after the Magic 7 series launch event. During the interrogation, a reporter asked if the company sees any biggest competitor in the fierce flagship smartphone competition. “Is it Mate 70?”

Ming replied that Huawei Mate 70 feels like the strongest rival at present. The executive said he doesn’t doubt the respective phone’s potential to rule the market.

He added that Honor is still growing and it wouldn’t be right to talk about rivals this early. The company only aims to develop better devices and the rest of the decision is in consumers’ hands.

“Huawei Mate 70 is the strongest competitor of all brands, there is no doubt about that. …we’re still growing and it is too early to talk about competitors. We must do our best and let consumers recognize our products.” – Zhao Ming.

The Honor CEO implied that the Huawei Mate 70 could be the toughest competitor in the market. The flagship series will enter the real world by next month.

Zhao mentioned that Honor has been working hard for the past few years to prove itself. Yet, it still sees certain doubts on R&D capabilities and the ability to innovate. The question “Can we develop better after being separated from Huawei” persists.

The CEO meant that Honor had to take major steps and implement new changes in terms of innovation. The company has introduced many useful solutions for its devices. For instance, the Qinghai Lake battery, Eagle Eye camera, and more.

“We relied on products and hard work. In this process, I think it is more important for Honor to be the best version of itself.” – said Zhao Ming.

Mate 70 Series

Huawei will launch four models with the Mate 70 series: Standard, Pro, Pro+, and RS Ultimate Design. The lineup will bring major upgrades and could be the first to equip a new Kirin 5nm chip as well as HarmonyOS NEXT software system.

Other changes will be visible as enhanced photography experience, faster touch responses, improved video recording, as well as an upgraded fingerprint unlock solution.

Huawei has unveiled dynamic wearables this year alongside new color variants. Watch GT 5 series is the latest example and comes with the all-new TruSense system.

It is also the first to feature the HarmonyOS 5.0 software and smarter functionalities than its predecessors. These points helped the respective wearable models to grab consumers’ attention and support in the Chinese smartwatch market.

Huawei is marching forward in the Chinese smartphone market with 10.8 million shipments in Q3 2024. A new data listing reveals that the company is doing great on its home turf, outperforming many rivals and gaining a significant market share.

The Chinese smartphone market report by Canalys shows that Huawei has sold 10.8 million units in Q3 2024. It obtained the second spot with a 16% market share.

Last year (same period), the company shipped 8.7 million smartphone units, capturing 13% of the market share. This time, Huawei earned a hike of 2.1 million units.

These achievements ultimately raised the company’s annual growth rate by 24%. According to the report, Huawei’s overall progress has been driven mainly by an active channel strategy to support its newly launched flagship products.

Canalys further notes that the world’s first triple foldable – Mate XT has also contributed to the company’s smartphone sales revenue. The tri-fold resulted in huge excitement among consumers for the upcoming Mate 70 lineup.

One of the Canalys Research Analysts – Lucas Zhong says:

“Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate, released in September, sparked discussions about tri-fold, driving attention to its coming Mate series.”

Lucas adds that Huawei, Honor, and other Chinese tech makers have now entered the AI phase with smarter features. These additions aim to enhance user experiences.

Apart from Huawei, vivo remains at the top with a shipment of 13 million units. Honor ranked third and sold 10.3 million phones but declined from the last year’s figure. Xiaomi is in fourth place and sold 10.2 million units, achieving a 15% market share.

Apple is standing in fifth position with 10 million unit shipments and has obtained 14% of the market share. But the annual progress dropped by 6%. Good news is iPhone 16 series is performing well in the Chinese market despite AI-less features.

The overall Chinese smartphone market in Q3 2024 has sold 69.1 million units, an increase of 4% YoY. The respective sector is in its most active period of the year and may show new increments in the next quarter of 2024.

A new Huawei Mate 70 camera cover leak revealed a signature look for the RS Ultimate Design variant. The device may adopt the same octagonal lens module as its predecessor. The changes will be visible in the arrangement of lenses and flash.

The latest picture leak comes from Weibo and shows the camera cover of all Mate 70 series models. It implies that the next lineup has four variants: standard, Pro, Pro+, and the RS Ultimate Design. All these models reflect a familiar lens cutout.

This time, the lens arrangement looks like the Huawei Mate 50 lineup but with a slightly increased radius. While the standard and Pro models have a circular camera cover, the Huawei Mate 70 RS Ultimate shows the same octagonal design.

Let’s explore the lens setup in detail.

Huawei Mate 70 RS Ultimate Design will feature the signature octa-edges camera framework. The edges look quite sharp and clear with rounded corners. Inside the frame, you will see four lens openings with a separate void for the LED flash.

Apart from these openings, the camera cover shows three more holes (one extra than the Pro variants). These holes might act as the color temperature lens, a laser focus sensor, or a proximity light sensor for relevant purposes.

Another change in the camera cover is the lens arrangement. The previous-gen Mate 60 RS Ultimate features a rhombus lens setup with a lot of space at the center.

The big void is also visible in the Mate 50 RS phones. But the Mate 70 RS Ultimate Design may break this rule with the squarely-arranged lenses, placed close to each other. The in-between space will likely be covered with significant components.

Other three models may also get notable changes in the camera module, over the previous-gen devices. The leak further hints that Huawei Mate 70 handsets may adopt a quad-camera setup this time. But the news is still unconfirmed and we have to wait for the official parameters, which may be unveiled by the next month.

Early rumors claimed that the Mate 70 RS Ultimate Design could ditch the double-stitching look. It may wear a full ceramic back panel, flaunting a mesmerizing look.

The device could also adopt major upgrades for the display panel. Huawei may use a dual-layer OLED for the Mate 70 RS Ultimate Design.

Huawei Mate XT recently appeared in JerryRigEverything’s durability test and showed that it still has room for improvement. While the overall look of the device can easily impress customers, it might disappoint them in case of long-term usage.

Zach Nelson, the YouTuber performed durability test on the Huawei Mate XT. He started the clip by unboxing the tri-fold handset. The packaging was alluring as it comes with many benefits – FreeBuds 5, an 88W car charger, and a back cover.

After the unboxing, Zach began testing the triple foldable. He initially tried some scratches to check the resistance level as per the Mohs hardness scale.

Unfortunately, the device began showing scratches on level 2 while deeper lines on the third level. The YouTuber even tried fingernail scratches on the display and back panel. But Mate XT failed to resist these challenges and showed clear marks.

Even a knife handle created a spider web-like pattern on the phone’s screen, implying that lighters and razor blades could make the display panel worse.

Apart from negative results, the test also showed good points. Huawei Mate XT easily resisted the dirt and grit torture test. Zach Nelson tried to force a pebble onto the screen but it continued to work perfectly without any problem.

While many foldable phones are currently facing dirt issues, the device has easily managed it. Although the overall test hints that Huawei Mate XT has a lot of room for improvement. The company may resolve these issues with the next-gen tri-fold.

Being the world’s first tri-fold phone, it was likely to come with certain drawbacks. However, Huawei may surely comes with a better solution for its upcoming foldable displays and their durability.

Huawei Mate 70/Pro back design has now been allegedly leaked, resembling the Mate 50 appearance. The devices will likely debut next month and ahead of that, several cover leaks and renderings of this lineup began surfing on social media channels.

Weibo tipster @DirectorShiGuan shared an image of the alleged Huawei Mate 70 and 70 Pro covers, revealing the back design. The interesting part of these phone cases is the camera layout, which is quite similar to the Mate 50 smartphone.

Both phone covers have a circular camera module with four lens openings. Although a slight difference is visible in the lens and flash arrangements in both frames.

Starting with the standard variant, the first cover has small gaps between the lens openings. The flash void appears above the lenses with two more holes. One of these could be the laser focus, enhancing photography in low light conditions.

Looking at the image, many netizens said that the Mate 60 paid tribute to the Mate 40, and the upcoming Mate 70 will likely resemble the Mate 50 smartphone.

The Pro variant, on the other hand, shows the same four lens openings but with a wider gap. Its LED flash is placed between the two bottom lenses.

The standard model’s phone case seems slightly smaller than the Pro one. It is in line with some previous revelations that claimed, the Mate 70 series may bring different screen sizes.

Huawei hasn’t confirmed these details yet. Based on early inputs, the design could be accurate to some extent. Things will get more clear with the official unveiling.

Mate 70 series will bring top-of-the-line features this year. Whether we talk about software or hardware capabilities. The device is likely to excel in every manner.

In terms of design, the Huawei Mate 70 series may not feature major changes. Although it would surely be better than the previous-gen models. Also, the RS Ultimate Design could be more stunning this time, with dynamic upgrades for the display.

WhatsApp is readying a new QR code feature for Channels. The company is releasing a new beta update for some Android testers which brings a useful QR code tool. This tool will ultimately help users access the Channels more easily and effectively.

Spotted in the Android beta 2.24.22.20 version, WhatsApp is rolling out a QR code feature for Channels. The update is available via the Google Play Beta Program.

The company has made several changes to the Channel section for better user interaction. For instance, a new shortcut to discover and follow useful channels, a channel creation option in the overflow menu at the top bar, and more.

Now WhatsApp is bringing a QR code feature to improve the channel part to a significant extent. Some beta testers noted a new QR code section in the Channels setting. This tool enables channel owners to share the code with others and increase the number of participants.

Instead of sharing a link, channel owners can now simply show or send the QR Code of their channel. Others interested in joining the channel can scan this code via their phones. It’s a quick and easy step to access channels for events, meetups, and more.

The feature is currently in the testing phase. Although it may soon reach more WhatsApp users in the time ahead. Ensure to keep the app up-to-date with the latest versions.

U.S. has once again stepped up the investigation on China’s chipset growth and this time, TSMC is under suspicion alongside Huawei. The scrutiny is in full swing and here’s an overview of what has happened on this matter in the past few days.

China-U.S. chip war came to light when Huawei launched the Mate 60 Pro last year with a Kirin 9000s 5G chip. Regardless of tough restrictions and challenges, the company managed to build a 5G chip for its smartphones with effective performance.

Pura 70 Ultra with Kirin 9010 and MateBook X Pro 2024’s Intel Core Ultra 9 added fuel to this chip war. As a result, the U.S. became more cautious about Huawei and China’s chipset progress. And TSMC investigation is a part of this “awareness”.

Part 1: Investigation begins

The story began last week when the U.S. suddenly started probing TSMC for if it was involved in any chip dealings with Huawei. Despite several explanations by TSMC, the U.S. didn’t find any satisfactory answers and continued its search.

If found in any dealings with Huawei, the Taiwanese firm may face punishments such as temporary restrictions on advanced chipmaking tools, fees, or more.

Although TSMC claimed that it hasn’t indulged in chipset relations with any Chinese firms including Huawei. It further said that as a law-abiding company, it will take prompt action to ensure compliance with the U.S. rules and regulations.

Part 2: Revelation

While the investigation was on, a research firm TechInsights revealed that one of Huawei’s AI chips has an important SoC made by TSMC. The chip is Ascend 910B which is said to use an advanced component supplied by the Taiwanese chip producer.

The discovery of this part in Huawei’s chip ultimately increased pressure on TSMC. It even informed the U.S. about this discovery immediately. It said that the company isn’t aware of this component and strongly follows all the regulations.

However, the U.S. authorities are probably seeing TSMC as a guilty firm in this case. One of the lawmakers from the U.S. – John Moolenaar stated:

“Reports that cutting-edge TSMC-manufactured chips have contributed to Huawei’s AI development represent a catastrophic failure of U.S. export control policy. Congress needs immediate answers from both Commerce and TSMC about the scope and volume of this disaster.”

Part 3: Cutting chip supply

Following the fierce investigation, TSMC has now stopped shipping its chipset to a specific client (suspected to be a supplier of Huawei). The chip producer is putting effort into proving its “no relationship with Huawei” statement.

Huawei on the other hand, said that it stopped taking any help from TSMC since 2019. Well, that means the company might have stockpiled these chips years back and is currently using them for its products. Although the matter requires more details for a clear view.
