Huawei is shining in the Chinese market with a 50% increase in smart TV shipments for Q3 2024. According to a new report, the company performed the best in China’s TV market and achieved the award of highest sales in the third quarter of this year.

RUNTO Technology published its analysis on Chinese smart TV shipments for Q3 2024. The report described that China’s TV sector is seeing a major decline this time, compared to the last year same period. It has dropped by 6.6% in sales.

The market has sold 8.115 million branded TV sets in the third quarter of 2024, which isn’t a good reach. Combining the TV sales of all three quarters this year, the shipments decreased by 5% year-on-year (24.505 million units sold in three quarters).

Despite a decline, Huawei has been the best performer in Q3 2024 Chinese smart TV shipments. The company sold around 300000 units in the last quarter.

This is ultimately an increase of 50% YoY in the company’s smart TV sales. RUNTO analysts mentioned that Huawei offline stores have sold the most number of smart TVs as of September. The sales have contributed to substantial growth this year.

Apart from Huawei, the report ranks seven brands as the top TV vendors in China. These are Hisense, Xiaomi, TCL, Skyworth, Changhong, Konka, and Haier.

Huawei Pura 70 Pro+ ranked first in a recent satellite network performance test. The device has received a five-star overall rating in the consumer-grade section. As per the details, it has the best calling and texting experience over satellite.

Pura 70 Pro+ has amazing features and tech capabilities. Being a high-end model, the phone supports dual satellite communication. Users can text or call (as per their preference) their contacts at times of urgency even when stuck in low-network areas.

To check how well satellite devices perform, China Telecom conducted a Tiantong device performance evaluation. Among many models, the Huawei Pura 70 Pro+ topped in the satellite network performance test with amazing scores in all aspects.

China Telecom states that the Pura 70 Pro+ has won five starts at all stages. For instance, Tiantong satellite network performance, call and SMS latency, positioning, power consumption, and battery life. The device has been perfect in every manner.

Further details say that the Pura 70 Pro+ is the only model to obtain all 5-stars. Looking into the latest ranking, the CTO of Huawei Device Business Group – Bruce Lee said: “XX is leading”

Huawei has been two steps ahead of its competitors in the satellite feature and communication technology. The company introduced the first satellite SMS capability with the Mate 50 Pro. The OEM kept upgrading this tech with flagship models.

Satellite Communication: Upgrades

Mate 60 Pro became the world’s first phone to feature a two-way satellite calling function. The technology has now become more interesting with the Pura 70 models that support the image-sending satellite feature for the first time. It not only sends picture messages with text and location but also the image details to the receiver.

The Chinese phone maker also uses a self-developed highly efficient image compression algorithm. With this solution, the picture message compresses up to 800 bytes which is comparable to a 400 Chinese characters message.

Satellite calls and SMS are quite significant features at times of need. But the company has made this tech more useful with the image-sending capability. With the upcoming Mate 70 series, we may find more dynamic changes to this segment.

Huawei has surpassed Apple in the Chinese high-end smartphone listing amid the ongoing 618 sales festival. The former continues to dominate in the home ground and gives tough competition to its rivals in the flagship smartphones category.

618 shopping festival is not only a sale event but a platform for vendors to showcase the latest consumer trends and flaunt their products. This mid-year sales fest also helps tech makers to promote their devices on the largest e-commerce sites.

Following the 618 sales festival, Huawei and Apple tried to spot the top rank in the Chinese high-end smartphone market. As per the JD.com phone race listing, Huawei, Xiaomi, and Apple scored quite well in the mobile phone racing category.

Huawei vs Apple

Although Huawei phone units took over iPhone handsets by a huge number. Apple listed three devices iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Plus, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

But Huawei became the star of the show with 5 entries including the full Pura 70 series and the Mate 60 Pro. Despite a higher price value, the Mate 60 Pro continues to be the ‘all-time favorite’ among Chinese consumers.

Another reason why Huawei is on top seems to be the growing shift of consumers towards native products rather than choosing U.S.-based or foreign devices.

Mate 60 Pro’s original price is 6499 yuan. While the cost reduction of the device is quite low on JD.com during the 618 sales, the device still sold in good numbers.

Other than Huawei and Apple, Vivo also secured two positions in the 618 sales for high-end smartphones due to X Fold 3 and X100 Ultra. The overall sales show that consumers are more interested in upgrades and innovations which ultimately press Apple for better iPhone launches to compete with its opponents in the market.

Here are the scores of the Pura 70 Ultra:

  • Photo – 169
  • Bokeh – 85
  • Preview – 82
  • Zoom – 164
  • Video – 148

The handset has the top scores except for the Preview and Video section. Although that doesn’t impact the Pura 70 Ultra rank much. Also, the high-end model of the Pura 70 series is at first in the Ultra-Premium ranking (devices above $800).

Pura 70 Ultra: Camera Specs

Huawei has imposed a 50MP 1-inch main camera sensor (Sony IMX989) with 7/1.6-f/4.0 aperture. It is retractable (telescopic) lens. Next is the ultra-wide shooter worth 40MP (f/2.2 QuadPD + AF), and the telephoto lens with 50MP (f/2.1, QuadPD + AF + OIS).

One can get quick and precise autofocus results paired with the variable aperture for brilliant portraits.

It also brings a natural, smooth, and subtle blur effect in portraits, ensuring precise subject isolation. Users will observe iconic close-up shots with sharp details.

Cons:

The only demerit with the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra at the moment is its video recording. It is slightly uneven, especially in the low-light scenes. It adopts the local noise in the video. Yet, the device has appeared as the camera king in DXOMARK.

Pura 70 Ultra has outperformed Magic 6 Pro (now in second position with 158 points) and iPhone 15 Pro Max (154 points) with the best scores to date.

Huawei continued to lead the global telecom equipment market in 2023 with a 30% market share. Despite growing U.S. restrictions and foreign bans on its network equipment, the company has maintained its position in the worldwide franchise.

Dell’Oro Group has recently published the chart of the global telecom equipment market 2023 where Huawei is sitting at the top. The list also counts Nokia, Ericsson, ZTE, Cisco, Samsung, and some other telecom operators across the world.

The group has considered five major aspects to figure out the ranking among telecom vendors. Eventually, this includes broadband access, microwave, optical transport, mobile core network, RAN, and service provider router and switch.

Looking into the details, Huawei has scored 30% of the global equipment market share. It shows a 2% increase compared to the previous year. The second rank goes to Nokia with a 15% revenue share. Besides, Ericsson has dropped from 14 to 13%.

Samsung is also seeing a decline in the worldwide telecom market with a 2% market share. The report further reveals that the 2023 global telecom ground has faced a decline of 5% YoY from the second half of the last year. Yet, some tech vendors performed well in this segment.

Dell’Oro states that region-wise, North America has fallen by 20% in equipment revenue. A root cause behind this decline is weak activity in RAN and broadband access. Although, the positive development in Asia leads to stable growth in the global telecom market.

The analyst of Dell’Oro Group – Stefan Pongratz says that even though the U.S. authorities constantly limited Huawei’s strength and use of its latest chips in the market, the company came out with flying colors. No doubt, it will continue to polish its capabilities in the future as well.

IDI research organization has published the Top 50 list of US patent companies 2023 report and Huawei has achieved eleventh position in this ranking. Despite applying for significant patent applications, the company’s results have dropped from the listing.

As per the latest report, the Chinese tech giant has obtained approval for 2068 patents in the U.S. in 2023. Notably, the number has fallen by 768 applications, compared to the year 2022. Huawei received a decline of 27% YoY which sent it to the eleventh mark in the Top 50 list of the US patent companies ranking.

So far, the Chinese firm has been standing at the fourth position in the US patent ranking till 2022. But the new decline pushed it to the eleventh place. Still, the company is constantly issuing new patents with innovative techs that can lead to the welfare of both the industry and consumers.

Meanwhile, Samsung is at the first rank with 6165 patents. Besides, Qualcomm and TSMC follow at the second and third positions with 3854 and 3687 patents respectively.

Huawei eleventh Top 50 US patent ranking

In terms of R&D development, Huawei is doing great work and achieved fifth position in the global R&D investment ranking. This has made the company – China’s largest R&D investor with around 20.92 billion euros. But it seems the tech giant needs to put stress on the patent applications, especially in the U.S.

A major reason behind the patent applications decline could be the increase in tension between the Chinese and the U.S. authorities. On the flip side, Huawei is stripping off its public relations in the U.S. and Canada which could have affected the patent subject. It would be worth seeing how the company will pace in this race in the time ahead.
