Huawei is leading the Chinese wearable market in Q3 2024, beating many of its rivals like Apple. The company has ranked first with a huge shipment of smartwatches in the market. It also holds the highest market share compared to others.

A new report by RUNTO Technology reveals the growth of the Chinese wearable market in Q3 2024. It listed the top five rankers and their progress in this report.

Inputs highlight that Huawei has topped the Chinese wearable market in Q3 2024. The company achieved 30.9% of the market share, 10% more than Apple.

The tech giant sold around 2.083 million units in the first three quarters of this year. The figure has ultimately increased the company’s year-on-year sales revenue by 23.5% and made it sit at the top of the Chinese smartwatch market.

Huawei has unveiled dynamic wearables this year alongside new color variants. Watch GT 5 series is the latest example and comes with the all-new TruSense system.

It is also the first to feature the HarmonyOS 5.0 software and smarter functionalities than its predecessors. These points helped the respective wearable models to grab consumers’ attention and support in the Chinese smartwatch market.

Apple ranked second with 20.9% of the market share. But it has fallen by 29.4% YoY in online sales. Xiaomi grabbed the third position with a huge annual growth rate of 108.3%. It owns 10.3% of the Chinese wearable market in Q3 2024.

Honor and Vivo appear in the fourth and fifth places respectively. The former holds a 3.2% market share whereas the latter has a 2.2% market share. Vivo has progressed by 207.9% YoY in smartwatch sales in the third quarter of this year.

Note that most of the sales have been made on the traditional e-commerce channels. In Q3 2024, the Chinese wearable market shipped 30.181 million units (an increase of 22.6% YoY) and earned a sales revenue of 17.34 billion yuan (a hike of 2.5% YoY).

The shipment figure is expected to increase up to 43 million units by the end of this year.

Huawei and Apple are constantly wrestling for the crown of smartphone sales in China. Both tech giants are offering their best creations to Chinese customers. Although this time too, Huawei seems to have an edge over the iPhone maker.

IDC recently released the Q3 2024 Chinese smartphone market report. It’s an analysis of how tech vendors performed in sales for the third quarter of this year.

Speaking of the top three rankers of the market in Q3, Vivo grabbed first place whereas the iPhone maker and Huawei ranked second and third respectively.

Apple has been edged out from the top 5 Chinese phone listing last time. But somehow, it has entered the space again. That could be due to the iPhone 16 series glowtime. Despite a comeback, the company faced a 0.3% decline in sales.

Huawei on the flip side, continued to roar in smartphone sales and surpass Apple in China. The company occupies 15.3% of the market share while its shipment progress has increased by 42.%. It is ahead of Apple sales in the third quarter, this year.

Regardless of a spot ahead, Apple is suffering in the Chinese smartphone market. Why so? Well, here are the reasons that summarize the fall of the iPhone maker.

1. Huawei Pura 70 series: A creative invention!

The flagship lineup launched in April this year. The name itself created a huge buzz among consumers as they were expecting the “P-70”. Another amazing part is the camera design. Unlike the P60, the Pura 70 adopted a new triangular lens framework.

Retractable lens of Pura 70 Ultra gives a Pro photographer-like feel to users. Also, the satellite image-sending capability increased the excitement of the Pura 70 series to a whole new level.

Although the years-ago design of the iPhone continues without any major changes. iPhone 16 appears as an exception with some sweet color options.

2. Mate 60 series, still in demand

Huawei Mate 60 series was launched last year but still has the same craze as at the release time. The Pro variant continues to rule the Chinese smartphone market for its significant features, Kirin 9000s chipset, and satellite calling capability.

3. China is supporting Huawei

Of course, the home ground is now having back of Huawei. Many Chinese firms prohibited the use of iPhones on the premises, following government norms. The aim is to use the least U.S. products as they continue to impose strict sanctions on the country.

Apart from Huawei, other competitors like Honor, Xiaomi, and Vivo are trying to stop Apple from gaining a foothold in the Chinese smartphone ground.

These reasons are probably affecting Apple iPhone’s sales in China. It’s not like Apple isn’t doing good. Many Chinese consumers still prefer iPhones rather than any other handset. Yet, the company has to make more effort to achieve success in China.

HarmonyOS NEXT smoothness is extremely good and surpasses its rivals like Apple iOS. After exploring the beta builds of the new OS version, some users shared their reviews. Among several aspects, the software’s fluency is mainly winning hearts.

A few HarmonyOS NEXT beta testers revealed that the smoothness of the new software is far ahead of iOS. Huawei greatly improved the overall flow of the device with the upgrade. App animations and transitions easily glide on the screen.

The software not only provides an impressive feel to the fingers but is also soothing to the eyes. A simple tap and swipe gesture is enough to perform a task.

Users who recently switched from an iPhone to a Huawei device said that iOS isn’t as good as HarmonyOS NEXT. This time, the Chinese firm has significantly improved the smoothness of the software. It brings a silky tactile feel with good visuals.

One of the HarmonyOS NEXT beta users said:

“The animation is truly smooth and pleasing to the eyes. I can just tap or swipe the screen and it’s even very relaxing. iOS is really a waste of time compared to its smoothness.”

It’s not the first time that Huawei HarmonyOS NEXT “smoothness” has been discussed among netizens. Some eager tipsters earlier shared their HarmonyOS NEXT experience and claimed it to be better than Android and iOS. Read More

HarmonyOS NEXT also brings changes to the user interface. It comes with cleaner and simpler UI features that enable users to easily understand their device.

One may further discover a redesigned Control Center with larger icons as well as better fonts. Customizations for lock screen are also available in the new upgrade.

Apart from smoothness, Huawei has also enhanced the security level with its new software. HarmonyOS NEXT introduces excellent services that protect your data from harmful applications and even restrict them for around nine permissions.

Huawei once again gave a strong bang to Apple iPhone sales in the Chinese smartphone market for Q3 2024. Both tech makers continue to escalate the fierce competition in China. A report has shared more insights on this matter.

IDC report shows that Huawei surpassed Apple in the Chinese smartphone sales ranking for Q3 2024. The analysis also counts some other tech giants with their progress and falls in the Chinese consumer market for the third quarter of this year.

Apple and Huawei made their way into the top five rankers list. The former grabbed second spot whereas the latter ranked third. Despite a rank ahead, Apple’s yearly iPhone sales dropped to 0.3%, achieving 15.6% of the market share in Q3 2023.

Huawei achieved third place in Q3 2024 with a market share of 15.3%. It’s just 0.3% less than that of Apple and increased by 4.3% from the last year (same period).

Regarding progress, the company excelled in the Q3 2024 Chinese phone sales ranking with 42.0% YoY. It’s the largest figure among all the top 5 rankers. This is the fourth consecutive quarter that Huawei continued to progress with double-digit sales.

Huawei’s growth over Apple is the result of booming sales of the Mate 60 and Pura 70 series. Both flagship lineups have been shining like stars in the Chinese smartphone market since their launch. You can check Pura 70 shipment details HERE.

On the flip side, the Chinese authorities and firms constantly prohibited the use of iPhones in the country. This step affected the sales of the iPhone in the market.

Apple unveiled iPhone 16 models in September but the shine of this series also faded, following Huawei’s tri-fold phone. It looks like the Chinese OEM continues creating problems for the iPhone maker in every possible way it can.

Speaking of other rankers, Vivo caught the first place with 18.6% market share and 21.5% YoY growth. Xiaomi is in fourth place with a 14.8% market share and 12.8% YoY progress. Honor is last with 14.6% shares but a lag of 22.5% YoY annual growth.

Together, these rankers boosted Chinese smartphone shipments by 3.2% YoY (68.8 million units in the third quarter of this year). Arthur Guo, the senior research analyst at IDC China says:

“A significant wave of device upgrades is propelling the sustained recovery of the Chinese smartphone market. Despite ongoing challenges, consumers are highly motivated to purchase new smartphones after three years of pent-up demand.”

An app developer recently pointed out that HarmonyOS NEXT is a good, unified, but closed operating system. He said that the new software is similar to Apple iOS in some aspects and requires a few changes to offer the best user experience.

Wang Boli – an app developer explored the HarmonyOS NEXT beta build and tries its features. During his exploration, Wang discovered that the new Huawei HarmonyOS NEXT is a closed operating system, similar to iOS.

Simply put, the new HarmonyOS version doesn’t support smartphones or devices from other brands. It will only work with Huawei products as it is a closed operating system just like Apple iOS.

Wang further said HarmonyOS NEXT is a unified and complete operating system. Yet it seems a bit difficult to understand in some aspects. Whereas, the third-party OS(s) appears relatively simple with minimalistic features.

The app developer anticipates that Huawei will enhance the new OS and make it even better in the future. We can expect more interesting changes as well.

HarmonyOS NEXT closed system

HarmonyOS NEXT is based on OpenHarmony, an open-source distributed operating system. Huawei says that the new OS is a true and real operating system.

Unlike the previous versions, HarmonyOS NEXT doesn’t contain any U.S.-based components. For instance, Linux, other system kernels, programming languages, and more.

But since it eliminates Android codes, it loses the points of supporting other apps except for the native ones. Yu Chengdong – the Chairman of Huawei Consumer Business said that HarmonyOS NEXT will connect many devices under various scenarios.

Huawei has achieved an operating system in 10 years that took the US and Europe 30 years to develop. It will slowly bring more new changes and useful enhancements that can be beneficial for users and other customers in every manner.

HarmonyOS NEXT brings amazing capabilities that have surprised Huawei consumers and one such is the file-sharing speed. The company has not only improved the sharing feature but also made it far more efficient than its rival operating systems.

During the HarmonyOS NEXT launch event, the company showed Huawei Share in an improved avatar. The feature is available on every Huawei device and enables users to transfer files, photos, videos, and other items across multiple devices.

It runs on Bluetooth and doesn’t require an internet connection to share files. Although the enhancement now comes in its speed. HarmonyOS NEXT has ultimately increased the speed of file sharing between devices, which is better than iOS.

While iOS takes around 14 seconds to transfer a 1.2GB file, HarmonyOS NEXT takes only 8 seconds. Thus, Huawei Share has become faster than Apple AirDrop.

The overall sharing speed is three times faster than the previous software versions. HarmonyOS NEXT utilizes a new distributed soft bus and cross-device connection that reduces power consumption and allows 4 devices to connect at the same time.

Multi-User Sharing

Another major upgrade to the Huawei Share is transferring files to many individuals at once. Earlier, the feature was able to share files to one device at a time. However, HarmonyOS NEXT upgrades the capability and allows sharing with many persons.

Next is the “touch-to-share” functionality. With the help of NFC, Huawei Share can sense and connect with any other device by just being close to it, to share files.

The feature is not only limited to the system apps and media content but can expand to third-party applications as well. Users can share Taobao links, Bilibili videos, and other app content. Also, one can share these files with just a simple touch.

He Gang – the CEO of Huawei Consumer Business said the touch feature will soon come to smart TVs, tablets, and automobile cockpits to offer a convenient user experience. One would be able to enjoy faster sharing than ever before.

Honor Magic 7 series has some powerful AI features that can even surpass Apple Intelligence. One of the company’s executives has recently shared details on how AI Agent is stronger and superior than the American tech giant’s AI capabilities.

Zhao Ming – the CEO of Honor Devices says that many phone makers are focusing on AI this year. However, the Magic 7 series will bring the strongest AI experience.

The executive adds that last month, Apple introduced its Apple Intelligence AI technology. The iPhone maker drew attention to the goodness of AI with its new tech.

Although the company’s tech has a significant issue. Apple Intelligence can only perform well with the system apps. It often creates problems with the third-party applications. Such issues eventually ruin the device experience for consumers.

But that’s not the case with Honor AI Agent. It not only supports third-party apps but can also obtain the best cross-app connection. Thus, users will get seamless functioning while operating between the system and foreign apps with AI tech.

Magic 7 series also accompanies Qualcomm’s latest chipset which will lift the bar of AI to a whole new level. Consumers will eventually enter a more magical and shocking experience with the upcoming Magic lineup.

“Apple Intelligence can only operate its apps whereas, Honor’s AI Agent is already able to call third-party apps and perform cross-app operations. The two are incomparable in terms of technical difficulty” – says Zhao Ming.

On the flip side, Apple AI Intelligence is far away from China as it will come into the region next year whereas, Honor Magic 7 series is ready to go live this month.

Honor Magic 7 series will likely bring features like AI task management, AI image assistant, and AI car connection. Users can easily perform daily tasks, send messages, and control smart home products via voice commands for utter convenience.

iPhone 16 Pro Max lags behind Huawei Pura 70 Ultra in many aspects and one such is the telephoto lens. A recent report by DXOMARK shows that Apple’s new device is struggling to match the level of Chinese smartphones in the photography race.

DXOMARK performed a new comparison test between the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Huawei Pura 70 Ultra for a telephoto lens. The participant list also includes other flagship smartphones like Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Vivo X100 Pro.

The reviewer noted that Apple has improved the telephoto camera and its features with the iPhone 16 Pro Max to a significant extent. However, it still cannot match the level of the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra and other Chinese premium devices.

Inputs further reveal that the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max’s telephoto lens struggled with the focal length operations. The device exhibits more noise while capturing the images. Meanwhile, the skin details in the image demand more clarity.

DXOMARK notes that iPhone 16 Pro Max detail processing isn’t as good as the Chinese models. It failed to show improved picture quality and better refinement in the landscapes. The color accuracy also feels pale than other handsets.

Comparatively, the Pura 70 Ultra and the other two models performed quite well with their telephoto camera. These devices portrayed better and sharper details with smoother facial skin. Overall results are far superior to the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max:

The company has implemented a tri-lens arrangement to the device with a 48MP primary camera, a 48MP ultrawide-angle lens, and a 12MP telephoto sensor with 5x zoom capability. It also supports dual-pixel PDAF and sensor-shift OIS.

The device features an advanced XD Motion Engine that ensures accurate clicks even at the fastest pace. Huawei has also enhanced the XMAGE imaging system to ensure an excellent photography experience for its users.
