Huawei is rolling out the HarmonyOS 4.2 software update for the MatePad 11 2023 tablet global users. The new firmware contains various useful changes and interesting features. These additions to the device will ease the day-to-day operations.

It seems Huawei has started speeding up HarmonyOS 4.2 rollout in the global market. The company recently served this software treatment to the MatePad Air. Now it is bringing new features and enhancements for another efficient tablet.

Global Huawei MatePad 11 2023 users can identify the HarmonyOS 4.2 update with the 4.2.0.210 version. Ensure to have sufficient storage in your device as the firmware weighs 5.55GB. We also suggest a stable Wi-Fi connection for installation.

The changelog unlocks new magazine themes that allow you to choose a portrait picture and match it with the wallpaper. Users can also keep an eye on the app’s activity via the Live View feature. SuperHub 2.0 makes file-sharing much easier.

On the other hand, Ark Engine ensures smoother animations, preventing lags on the tablet. You can check all the features and enhancements below.

Magazine Themes

  • The Art Star theme lets you choose a portrait photo you like and a wallpaper to match.

Live View

  • Keeps you up to date on the status of important events by displaying timely notifications on the lock screen, home screen, and more.
  • Users will also see a notification window pinned to the top left of the home screen.

SuperHub

  • Supports dragging and dropping content between apps and devices. You can tap and hold defined text and images, then drag and drop them to SuperHub to store them temporarily or send them in bulk.

Ark Engine

  • Provides a smoother user experience with the upgraded Ark Engine.

HarmonyOS 4.2 is still missing for flagship tablets like MatePad Pro 13.2, MatePad Pro 11, and more. Although the company could soon expand the reach of the new upgrade to eligible devices in the global market.

Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2 users are grabbing the new October 2024 update with certain security improvements. The company has added useful security system changes in this firmware. Device owners will also find bug fixes in the latest rollout.

The tech giant is releasing the October 2024 update for Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2 global units. It upgrades the security patch level to the current month.

A good part of the update is it will protect your device’s system and data from privacy exploits and harmful malware. It further increases the tablet’s potential to fight against vulnerabilities that may ruin the overall user experience.

However, the bad part is that the device is still running on the HarmonyOS 4.0 version. The company hasn’t upgraded the MatePad Pro 13.2 tablet to the 4.2 software build. We anticipate hearing about the new rollout for the flagship device soon.

According to the changelog, MatePad Pro 13.2 users can identify the new October 2024 update with the HarmonyOS 4.0.0.141 version. One has to download a software package of 356 MB to install the latest security improvements to the handset.

  • Security: Integrated the October 2024 security patch to enhance the system security.

October 2024 security patch fixes 6 major CVEs and 18 third-party library defects. It improves the issues related to the security, Wi-Fi, and lock-screen module.

The update also claims to offer performance optimizations for a better and more stable user experience. Hence, you should prioritize this firmware and install it as soon as possible.

HarmonyOS 4.2 rollout for global tablets?

Huawei has served the HarmonyOS 4.2 upgrade to almost every eligible tablet and wearable in the home ground. However, such a treatment is still missing for the devices in the global market.

Although the company has begun its work with the HarmonyOS NEXT and it may soon release HarmonyOS 4.2 build for the global users as well. If not immediately, the company might bring this offering by the end of this year or early 2025.

Huawei has added 8 more devices to the OpenHarmony 5.0 compatibility list. These models have participated in the HarmonyOS NEXT closed and public beta programs. Perhaps the company wants them to be compatible with the latest OS version.

A few weeks back Huawei added four models to the OpenHarmony 5.0 list. These were Mate 60, Mate 60 Pro, Mate X5, and MatePad Pro 13.2. Now the tech giant has added 8 more Huawei devices to the OpenHarmony 5.0 compatibility section.

Pura 70 series, Pocket 2, and more models have passed the OpenHarmony 5.0 compatibility test. This qualification implies that these models will run effectively with HarmonyOS NEXT without resulting in performance or stability issues.

You can check the complete device list below.
  • Pura 70
  • Pura 70 Satellite SMS Edition
  • Pura 70 Pro
  • Pura 70 Ultra
  • Pocket 2
  • MatePad Pro 11 2024
  • Nova 12 Ultra
  • Nova 12 Ultra Star Edition

The 5.0 is the latest release version of the OpenHarmony operating system. It contains new features for ArkUI, useful changes for file management, app framework, graphics, images, and Windows. It also accompanies some fixes for the Web module.

OpenHarmony is the foundation for native apps in HarmonyOS NEXT. The company’s self-developed OS uses a custom unified system built on OpenHarmony.

Hence, it is important to check if a Huawei smartphone or tablet is compatible with OpenHarmony to run smoothly on the HarmonyOS NEXT stable versions.

Such compatibility tests also verify if a device can remain stable and work efficiently with multiple app interfaces, heavy tasks, and other complex scenarios.

OpenHarmony compatibility points out that the device is a perfect product for HarmonyOS. The company currently has 12 OpenHarmony-supported models. It may soon add more devices to the list as the HarmonyOS NEXT beta program proceeds.

HarmonyOS NEXT is running in the public beta phase and might go stable later this month. A new leak says that Huawei could officially unveil its all-new self-developed operating system in October. Probably, we may get an official statement tomorrow.

Tipster UncleKanshan has recently received a notification regarding the new software. The alert reads that Huawei might launch the HarmonyOS NEXT stable version later this month. However, the exact release date is still unconfirmed.

Huawei launched the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta program on October 8. Based on the past revelations, the tipster said that the company could showcase the official version tomorrow (October 15). The news ultimately raised users’ excitement.

The latest information seems accurate. Several early inputs claimed that HarmonyOS NEXT will likely go official in October this year. One of the company’s executives even said that the stable version of the new software will meet consumers in Q4 2024.

In that case, the leaked timeline could be correct to some extent. But we have to wait for an official confirmation before jumping to any conclusions on this matter.

HarmonyOS NEXT stable this month

Apart from the software info, the leak mentions that Huawei will release its flagship products in mid-November. The date is marked XX (double digit), which hints the Mate 70 or Mate X6 launch will take place in second/third week of next month.

Some netizens asked if the company will unveil any new small-sized tablets this year. In response, the tipster said that details are currently unknown. Judging from the previous 3C listings and revelations, Huawei may launch more tablets this year.

HarmonyOS NEXT

HarmonyOS NEXT has been distributed in two parts. The first batch of devices is fetching the public beta upgrade (Check the public beta update changelog HERE). Meanwhile, the second batch models are ready for the closed beta version.

The speed in the HarmonyOS NEXT beta rollouts among eligible devices hints that Huawei could unveil the new software’s stable version this month.

Mate 70 series will come with the pre-installed HarmonyOS NEXT. Other devices like the Mate 60 series, Mate X5, and MatePad Pro 13.2 will likely be the first to get the official version. You can check the HarmonyOS NEXT Upgrade Plan HERE.

Huawei has shared the EMUI and HarmonyOS October 2024 security patch details and it’s time to check which devices will get the latest enhancements. Apart from patch details rollout, the company has also listed the devices on its official page.

Every month, the company updates its security patch details. Alongside, it adds or removes devices from the rollout list based on their compatibility. The current month is no exception to this theory and Huawei has shared the eligible models list.

The details describe two sections: monthly and quarterly. Huawei devices in the former section get the benefits of regular security rollouts while those in the quarterly part fetch new security improvements once in three months.

Note that Huawei has not yet started the October 2024 update distribution. Also, the company rolls these security firmware in batches. Hence, it takes some days to cover all the eligible units in a particular region. You can try out a manual installation.

To download the update manually, go to Settings > System & Updates > Software Updates. Now click on CHECK FOR UPDATES and let the device search for new versions. To the available one, hit the Download and Install tab. You can check the compatible Huawei devices for the EMUI October 2024 update below.

News regarding Huawei reveals that four devices have recently passed the OpenHarmony 5.0 compatibility test. The list counts the first batch devices of the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta. More devices may soon join this compatibility list.

OpenHarmony is an open-source distributed operation system platform, launched by OpenAtom Foundation. It has a layered architecture as well as supports several types of devices like printers, speakers, wearables, and mini systems.

The company has recently released the OpenHarmony 5.0 version with a set of new ArkUI features and enhancements. The build also fixes certain issues found in the Web module, input method framework, and other significant segments.

As of now, some Huawei devices have passed the compatibility test for the OpenHarmony 5.0 operating system. The list of compatible models is as follows:

  • Mate 60
  • Mate 60 Pro
  • Mate X5
  • MatePad Pro 13.2

OpenHarmony compatibility test ensures that devices or industrial apps and products comply accurately with the technical requirements of the OpenHarmony software system. Simply put, it helps in the long-term run and stability aspects.

At the same time, these testing looks if the product can remain persistent with the business experiences and app interfaces or will fail in the middle.

Devices like Mate 60 and Mate X5 have qualified for the OpenHarmony 4.1 release version compatibility test in June this year. Now the company has added more models to this segment for an efficient and compatible experience.

This testing is also beneficial for the HarmonyOS NEXT-based experience. At the HDC 2024, the company announced that HarmonyOS NEXT is a full-scenario intelligent operating system as well as relies upon OpenHarmony.

Thus, compatibility with the OpenHarmony 5.0 version will help Huawei devices remain supportive and responsive to the HarmonyOS NEXT features and capabilities.

HarmonyOS NEXT beta update has unlocked a new ‘lost hidden album images’ issue for beta users. Some device owners reported that after installing the latest testing version, they lost all the hidden images from their Huawei handset.

The company kick-started the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta program yesterday for first-batch devices. The list includes the Mate 60 series, Mate X5, and MatePad Pro 13.2 tablet. Alongside new features, the update also brought in a nasty bug.

Some beta users started losing their hidden album pictures after installing the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta on their devices. The problem is quite disturbing as “hidden images” reflect confidential pictures that users often hide from prying eyes.

Although Huawei has officially responded on this matter. The company said that the HarmonyOS NEXT hasn’t resulted in the loss of any images. Rather, it has moved all the pictures to the .hiddenALbum section and stored them safely.

The Chinese tech giant added that this is a normal behavior of the software. But it will be resolved by the end of this month with new beta updates. By that time, users can try some temporary solutions that can help them to some extent.

“…it is expected to resolve in the upcoming versions released by the end of October. Please refer to the actual release time for details. Please wait patiently for the system version update and upgrade it on time.”

HarmonyOS NEXT lost images issue

Temporary Solutions:

Users can go to the .hiddenAlbum album on the file manager. Now select all the images and tap on the “More” tab in the lower right corner. Click on Hide.

Doing so will let you access the lost images and re-hide them from the main album. Other than that, those who do not want to hide these pictures temporarily can wait for the next version. The new update will automatically shift images to hidden album.

HarmonyOS NEXT brings various features on board. But being a beta build, it also leads to certain irritating bugs that hinder user experiences to some extent. One such is the ‘lost hidden images’ issue in the HarmonyOS NEXT public beta.

Hence, it is better to take a backup of your device before proceeding with the beta update installation.
